Here is the website describing the product. My mother has one ordered since she is too weak for her pacemaker/defib surgery. We're trying to get her into a skilled nursing home facility with a good rehab program; however, a lot of the nursing homes don't want to accept her bec. of the vest. I believe you rent the vest. The nursing home would have to pay for it upfront but get reimbursed by MediCare.

Hello, My husband wore a lifevest for approximately six weeks before his ICD was implanted. It was not hard to put on, and he had to wear it all the time except when he showered. It is very lightweight and has a monitor that you wear on your belt buckle or as a shoulder belt. It took some getting used to but it provided peace of mind should he have had any arrthymias during that time. I think it is such a great option for those who are unable to undergo the procedure for whatever reasons.......I wish you and your mom luck!

Cheri,

I have never worn a life vest, but because of my dad I am familiar with Medicare and nursing homes. Is the reason the nursing home won't take your mom because of the upfront costs or is it because of the management of the vest? Do they have skilled staff that can put it on and take it off?

Take care
Sherri

I think it is both reasons-cost and the hassle of dealing with it. My dad has decided to put my mom in nursing home in order to get rehab for her & he has decided against the LifeVest. I am really scared that she will go into cardiac arrest again & won't survive.

She has really improved. She has been singing several songs...one of her doctors said that her brain is waking up. I just don't know what I will do if this happens again.

Thank you for your reply & concern.
