I forgot to mention that around the time I found out that I would need an arthroscopy, I also found out that I had Morton's Neuroma. Kind of like Sarcoidosis, you think that the doctor mis-spoke when they said it for the first time. Morton's what? Something much simpler than sarc though. Just a bundle of nerves being pinched between the bones in my foot. I received the first steroid injections while I was having my arthro. It was nice to get to miss out on that because when I did have to have them while being awake! WOW! Luckily the Dr. had a solution. I had several shots of a scarring agent to kill off those nerves and it worked.

So, thankfully I can walk without pain. There are some things to be thankful for in this life.

I think that it was 2003 when I had those things done. And after I healed from the surgery, things started to look up for me for a little while. I went to a therapist who encouraged me to enroll in school. I went back to school during the fall of 2004. I had shed 80 pounds and started excercising regularly. I was in THE best shape of my life, mentally and physically.

Then I started Depo Provera. My ob/gyn sold it on me, saying that it would stop me from ovulating and be a solution to the ovarian cysts.

I was working part time, taking 6 classes, and caring for the kids. After the depo, I started having headaches and gaining weight. I knew the weight was a side affect of the birth control. The headaches I should have seen a Dr. about but my life was so busy and I felt like I didn't have time for a bunch of testing. I put the headaches down to stress and just pushed on. When the fatigue hit, I couldn't ignore it.

At 27, if you start feeling like you HAVE to pull your car over and take a nap or fall asleep behind the wheel, and you got plenty of sleep, something is wrong. So, I went to the Dr. Her answer, it's the Depo. It shocked me. THAT is when I finally took the time to look up Depo and what it actually does! It's poison, in my opinion. To my body it was. I bled every day for 8 months. I packed on 80 pounds. My Saturdays were hell! A 4 hour Algebra class, with a pounding headache the entire time. Somehow, I managed a B! :)

I stopped the depo. It took 18 months for my body to return to normal. To start ovulating again, that is. I had no cysts during that time, so it served one purpose but made me sick in the process.

I scraped by that semester with a 3.05. Not too bad for a Mom who works part time. And who started out with 6 courses! But it was hard, harder trying to take care of things at home with no support and a resentful husband. I didn't return to school.

I plan to. I'll start again this January and I'm looking forward to it. I need it! I need to know that I am working towards my goals. When I manage to climb out of this hell of mine, I'd like to be able to help others.

Sarcoidosis and the Body
Sarcoidosis is a "multiorgan" disease - meaning it almost always involves more than one organ. It's unpredictable and affects different people in different ways.

You can learn about the ways in which sarcoidosis affects the body in FSR's Sarcoidosis and the Body brochure.
