My One Hundredyth Post… or so

16 Recommendations

Well, well... my one hundredth post. I'm sure some new people are still curious about the name of my blog, "My Pet Demon." It refers to my sarcoidosis, a condition that was "diagnosed" in July of 2005. And since then; since stumbling upon this website, I have found solace; information; friends; support; and, as bizarre as it may seem, good times hanging out electronically with a whole bunch of sick people young and old.

I don’t quite know what the mechanism is that makes being sick around other sick people with the same sickness slightly more bearable; perhaps its ‘misery loves company’ which in itself sounds sick. But sick is as sick does, and when we communicate together about sickness; somehow the sickness becomes a second class citizen in our lives and not the overbearing taskmaster it seems to be when we are isolated.

And today I am having a celebratory apple with an imaginary candle in it… today, I am writing my 100th or so (the blog counter is missing on this new version of the site… bwa-ha!) full length, bit blustery, self-indulgent, vaguely coherent, quasi-informational, anatomically correct, rarely modest, frequently outspoken, ‘politically correct’ free, anti-quackery, anti-spamery, Auntie Emmery, no-holds-barred, self-rising, Sarcoidosis blog (including two dogs and a cat.)

I re-invite newbies and those of you that don’t particularly care for the smell of acrid baby hampers, to go ahead and peruse my lengthy list of felonious blog entries (retitiled ‘JOURNALS’ because the new site wants to exhault an air of spiffiness, and the term ‘blog’ is soooooo early 2000s) Anyway… my ‘journal’ entries are now conveniently listed in a row so that one may selectively choose which to print out and place carefully under Polly’s cloaca.

I can’t guarantee that reading through my posts will make you feel any better, but if you send me $45.95 plus $20.00 shipping and handling I will send you this complete DVD set of me ranting about invisible bacteria causing Sarcoidosis and how too much aluminum foil on the planet is to blame, on a street corner whilst nervous drivers nonchalantly make sure their doors are locked (don’t laugh, it worked for Al Gore).

But reading through my blog what I guarantee you will find is that there is some miserable yokel out there that just might share the same stupid Sarcoidosis symptoms, misery, and experiences you do, or your loved one does. And as the folks at Inspire have service marked: 'Together were batter' ... er, 'better.'

My blog entries only speak from my limited experience, but that experience, at least in my own mind, is very very personal. I chose early on to channel my pain, confusion, and frustration with the Sarcoidosis status-quo into a humorous if not sarcastic voice. This is how I deal with my disorder. This is how I file down the teeth of the monster. How I force my pet demon into the back seat.

I also encourage all of you to start or continue your blogs (journals) so that, if anything, others can see their experience with Sarcoidosis through your eyes… it cuts through the loneliness and despair for those that read quietly in the dark; not sure if they are alone in the world. And the minute you begin to tell the tale of your experience, you begin to heal you own mind and soul. And those are two casualties of Sarcoidosis that are not often addressed, and usually the first to suffer. So take pen to paper or fingers to keys, you will find the words will come with relative ease!

My best to you all. Enjoy and God Bless!

Sarcoidosis and the Body
Sarcoidosis is a "multiorgan" disease - meaning it almost always involves more than one organ. It's unpredictable and affects different people in different ways.

You can learn about the ways in which sarcoidosis affects the body in FSR's Sarcoidosis and the Body brochure.
