I hate the idea of Prednisone Can anyone tell me what else is used to treat Sarc I have it in my lungs and surrounding chest area. So far tried to avoid treatment but not sure I can.
I would like to get the lapband to get off sugar and high blood pressure pills would really help me. But understand the lapband and Prednisone don't get along. Any new treatment anyone knows of?

You might want to talk with your pulmonologist about inhaled steroids. When you use steroids in inhalers, they have less systemic (whole body) effects. For some people, the inhalers provide enough.

It is really important for you to have one doctor who is looking after ALL your medications and medical issues to make sure your care is coordinated.

It is equally important for you to keep everything straight in your own mind. Ask lots of questions until you understand all the possible options for you.

Hang in there -

There is a lot out there about how to fight this disease and much of your protocol will depend on what type of manifestations of sarc you have, and what stage it is at. I did about a 18 months on prednisone (oral) and methotrexate. It took care of the very large lymphomas, including the one blocking a lung chamber. However the toll on my body with the side effects was tremendous. None of the protocols our there are 'fun'. I'd suggest as with the other poster that you talk to your doctor and prioritize what needs to be done.. Having several friends that have done the lapband and gastric bypass surgery, I'm not following how you think this will help you get off sugar. I can see weight loss helping high blood pressure but getting off sugar is more of a will thing and a decision just to not go there! Alas .

I gained a tremendous amount of weight on the prednisone but not everyone does. It has been coming off slowly and in time I'll be back to my normal weight. I have not considered the laptband or other surgery because I believe that this weight gain is not a function of what I ate but of what the steroids were doing. I followed a "weight watchers" style diet after the first two months when I ate everything in sight, yet still I gained and gained. I think it is important for you to findout what is the most serious thing to confront and deal with it first. Talk to your doctor, and if your doctor is not familiar with sarc then look to this web page and others to find one in your locale that is!

Hang in and just get your priorities in line healthwise, it will all work out.

The universe unfolds as it should, Iona

Sarcoidosis and the Body
Sarcoidosis is a "multiorgan" disease - meaning it almost always involves more than one organ. It's unpredictable and affects different people in different ways.

You can learn about the ways in which sarcoidosis affects the body in FSR's Sarcoidosis and the Body brochure.
