It sure is! My initial, and only, flareup to date since 1991 left me 30 lbs lighter after 3 months. I began the slow recovery process after 3 months of fatigue, no motivation, and absolutely no desire to eat. I presented initially with swollen parotid glands and then subsequently bells palsy. I have only lung involvement to date but quite extensive with fibrosis. I could only suggest that you force yourself to eat and perhaps you will recover more quickly. Good luck packin on the pounds- could be fun!
I lost almost 40 lbs in approximately 4 weeks when I first became ill. I couldn't keep anything in and food made me nauseous. Even went through an episode where I was "tossing my cookies" just walking around my house. It wasn't until I was put on 40 mg of prednisone that I went from running to the bathroom and avoiding a lot of food to... getting up at 2AM and staring at the contents of my refrigerator and eating like a fiend. Although it wasn't fun, losing 40 lb was a godsend since I was 40 lbs overweight.
Each case is different. In my case, my guts were affected by or possibly the cause of my illnesses. I am intolerant of gluten and wheat and many people with celiac (sprue) often get to a point where their bodies won't tolerate the "poison" and stop absorbing nutrients. BTW, it wasn't until my gyno nurses assistant mentioned that the pain I felt on my left side might be colon related that a gastrointestinal specialist was added to the medical team involved in my case. My other doctors blew me off. The gastro doctor did find diverticulitis after a colonoscophy; an endoscophy performed for the vicious heartburn I suffered from was inclusive. This was found almost a year and 1/2 later.
Keep in mind that weight loss does not have to be directly related to sarc; it might be part of the cause, an effect, treatment or result from another condition, such as diabetes or cancer.
thank you for your replys dog and exultant. I do get nauseated sometimes and it seen to get worst whene i drink milk or I'm very anxious. Today I'll be praying for you guys god bless you guys.
When I was diagnosed in 1996 I was put on 60 mg of prednisone and gained 35 lbs in 5 months. After getting off of it, I've slowly, steadily lost weight, especially over the past 4-5 years and now weigh 114 lbs at 5'3".
I need to gain 10-15 lbs to be eligible for a lung transplant and it's been damn hard because food doesn't taste good and my stomach has shrunk. I'm now on Marinol for appetite but it isn't working well (only 10 days). I'll give it more time.
Good luck to bhs on your ling transplant. I'll be praying for you today just have faith in jesus.
weight loss is often mentioned as one of the symptoms of sarcoidosis - but nausea, severe heartburn not mentioned too often. i am somewhat surprised that they are not, after reading the number of entries from individuals like you, gone natural, and sarcoid princess with similar problems.
before my diagnosis, i had severe upper gi burning pain (had trouble even w/ water), intense and continuous nausea (as well as vague dizziness, difficulty concentrating, chest pain, cold sweats). wound up losing 90 lbs. the nausea went on for 1 1/2 yrs, didn't relent until i was started on neurontin.
good luck to all w/ this symptom. i would take pain any day over nausea. hope you are all improving.
