Sensitive Smell

0 Recommendations

I have serious problems just smelling perfume not to mention other things and it is usually ones I have used in the past. I don't just smell the perfume (I SMELL THE PERFUME) and a little smells like a lot causing me to cough eyes burn and after a short while my throat even gets raw. I have masks that I use maybe I should start using them on a regular basis? I am curious does anyone know what causes bloating? Is there anything that relieves it? Vitamins Herbs etc. I have a lot of bloating all the time so bad that it feels tight around the area where my lung are. This also makes it harder for me to breath.

Hello there!

I know what you mean! Half the time, my family thinks I am crackers because I seem to smell things that nobody else can. Perfumes, or at least most of them, make me want to throw up. My god, my son's father bought him a bottle of cheap mens cologne (AXE?) and being 13 he was like bathing in it. My god, riding home in the car with him, I thought I would throw up all over the steering wheel! LOL! Funny but not. I explained to him That his cologne was killing me but being 13 and having bipolar, he did not care. Continued to drown himself in it. My fiance finally did me a favor and took it to work with him and disposed of it!!! That of course does not help when you are out in public and are surrounded by people who are engulfed in smells. I just kind of keep my distance or pull my shirt over my face if it is too bad.

As for the tightness around the lungs....Are you sure that it is bloating causing that? Perhaps it could be swollen lymph nodes in the chest? that could cause the same kind of feeling. Like a tight squeezing. Perhaps the doc should be giving you something to reduce the inflamation.

Hang in there my friend and be well!!!!

I, too and very sensitive to smells and noise as well. A lot of strong odors will actually trigger a migraine for me.

If the pressure you are feeling is actually from bloating, it might be trapped gas, try some mutli symptom Rolaids or gas-x, something with simethicone in it. But, I tend to agree that the pressure you are feeling is more from inflammation from the sarc. You could try one of the otc nsaid medications like Alieve to see if that helps but you should really let your doctor know.

I too have sensitivity to smells - hate it when someone is wearing perfume.

I have an enlarged spleen they believe is sarcoid related- it seems to give me a bloated feeling-

Strong perfumes bother me, too. I think that's weird, because my sense of smell seems to have diminished a little. Still, I can't stand the really strong perfumes or when people douse themselves in even a scent I usually like.

If it's gas that's causing your bloating, activated charcoal tables work great to alleviate it.

ARGH the smells! I never had much of a nose before, I mean, I raised horses, sheesh! Nothing bothered me and I never noticed smells of any sort. But starting about the time I think the Sarc started, oh yeah, did I start noticing smells, particularly perfumes and house cleaning products. I will actually get queasy if someone near me is wearing perfume. I sympathize!

I tell you it is crazy. We had our house remodeled after a big leaky roof and the stuff they used was so strong I had to move out for almost 6 months. I still can't go in that room for long. Everything I use has to be unscented.
Perfumes, smoke, cleaning stuff, hand soaps and those little smelly plug ins and pumping gas and on and on. I carry my mask with me at all times. I wear it when I need it which seems to be more and more now. I don't like it but it helps.
It has to be the Sarcoid because I used to use Murphys oil soap for everything and now it makes me gag.

I am too bothered by various smells. Along with the Sarcoid, I have Asthma and sometimes even bacon cooking bothers me. I have even had a dryer sheet bother me, I put in plastic bags now when they come home!!! I found out that my cousin will be going Monday to a pulmonologist Monday for testing to see what is wrong with her, maybe the same as me. And her mom is having trouble with her heart. The whole family needs our prayers!! Thanks for letting me share!!

Hi
I am sensitive to strong smells - perfume, aftershave, cigarette smoke, other chemical smells. I feel nauseous, my eyes water and sting, and I can sometimes feel breathless with strong smells.

My sense of taste seems to be poor and I find this odd as taste and smell are linked. I prefer to eat food with a strong taste/smell - particularly curries! !! Blue
