Sarcoidosis Awareness Month or Day

very confused, I have seen multiple places where the Awareness day is October 4, 2009 and I have seen the awareness month as April 2009. The dates are different everywhere. Help. The national health calendar shows no actual month but the day as 10-4-09. I would like to do something to promote awareness and at this point I may just leave the date off of any materials I give out.

April is Sarc awareness month.

August 26, I do believe I have the day correct, the month is correct, is Sarc awareness day.

This was just posted nearly 2 wks ago and when I saw it I ordered a shirt from Gardener to get ready for April. Also one of them was granted by President Bush and is on some calenders. I thought I saved the info but I just checked and sometimes fall back on old habits, thinking I still have a memory. I haven't heard of October before myself.

If you want to back track up to 2 weeks you will find the info.

Main consensus appears to be October 4th according to US government. In UK last year we were on 6th Oct whilst US was on 4th Oct so we have agreed on 4th October now too.

As far as a week is concerned it should be the first week in October and awareness month is April although I have no idea where the month idea originated.

As GN says above this was debated at length a few weeks ago. I prefer to think of awareness as an ongoing thing as it is in the UK at the moment.

Where did I get August 29th. from for the awareness day?

I did not even know there was an awareness day or month, but I am very excited to hear about it. I will be watching further to get the correct date and I am so thankful for this site. I've gone thru this disease for so many years on my own and have learned more in just a few days looking over all of the posts than I did in all those years thru my docs. Thanks everyone

This is the link to show April is Sarcoid Month by President Bush.

Awareness is still going strong in the UK. I will be interested to see what happens in April in the USA Awareness Month.

I just researched this on several websites and according to the Bush Library found on the following website:
http://bushlibrary.tamu.edu/research/public_papers.php?id=3304&year=1991&mo nth=all

August 29th is National Sarcoidosis Awareness Day and you can also find it by searching the Library of Congress website at: http://www.loc.gov/index.html

The only thing "official" I found about Sarcoidosis Month is that Congress officially "expressed support for the desigantion of April as Sarcoidosis Awareness Month" but nothing there was nothing "official" about it being finalized.

My story is about (sarcoidosis)sarcoidosis
I was 22 years old, when it first started in 1973. And just married, My poor wife. I discovered some red blotches on my skin. I had three biopsies’ to remove the skin infected. At the same time I had x-ray on my lungs, and the doctors Said that I had T-B, I was struggling to get my breath and could not climb the stairs. A few months passed and it seamed to go away, so I decided to Go back to work, as a joiner.

Throughout my working life I was never off for more than a week.
With this problem of sarcoidosis comes and goes throughout my life.

In about 1976, I had breathing problems again, I was sent to the Leeds
General Infirmary to a kidney specialist Dr B.J. The doctor showed me, that there was only two lines in the medical dictionary. About Sarcoidosis. At this time there was no Internet and believe me I was alone, because I was young it did not bother me, I think maybe my wife was a little worried as we had a baby on the way.

Then I started on a drug called Prednisolone this is a type of steroid. I was on steroids for the next few years, during this time I suffered a bit of a relapse, I had been Poisoned by car fumes from the engine, this caused me to have a bad chest and I lost all my steroids. I was very poorly so I was sent to the hospital were they injected me with 60mg of prendnisolone a few hours later I was back to normal, I was in the hospital for a couple of days and sent home.

One day I visited the doctors and they said it time for you to come off the tablets so I did.

A few years later I needed glasses and hearing aids, the doctors said,
it was down to sarcoidosis. A few years later I started having problems
with my breathing again, and the doctors put me back on the steroids.
My health returned to normal.
This is the first page, I am going to put on the web site where very body van read it.

Sarcoidosis is so confusing even the awareness day/month is causing confusion. Go Figure. We picked yesterday as sarc awareness day and started our first support group meeting Saturday. Everday that we can make someone aware of sarc is a successful awareness day.

Sarcoidosis and the Body
Sarcoidosis is a "multiorgan" disease - meaning it almost always involves more than one organ. It's unpredictable and affects different people in different ways.

You can learn about the ways in which sarcoidosis affects the body in FSR's Sarcoidosis and the Body brochure.
