Rumatologist wants me to go to the ER.....

0 Recommendations

I have been symptom free for 1 year, and now I am coughing up blood and have lost 23 lbs since my last visit. Instead of just making me an appointment, my doctor wants me to go to the er to have tests to see whats wrong with me... I have sarcoidosis.... hello.... maybe someone knows something I don't know about this illness, is there a legitamate reason to run to the er, and not to this specialists office?

If you're coughing up blood, then going to er would be a good thing. Er will be able to find out what's bleeding, then if it's sarcoid related then it would be time to get the specialist in.

Good morning. The situation you are describing is NOT a normal Sarc event that I am aware of. I have had lung Sarc for over 10 years and this has never been one of the symptoms. The ER would only get you to the right specialist more quickly. But if you have a Pulmonary Doc he should be willing to take you on an emergency office visit, more so that getting him up in the middle of the night for an ER visit. Was it your Pul doc that recommended the ER?

Whenever the red stuff is coming out of a place it should not be coming from; it behooves you to get it checked out by a physician.

Sarcoidosis infiltration in the lungs has been known to cause bloody sputum, but there are other issues that warrant a full check up.

Go. Be safe and be wise.

Hello,
I have to agree with everyone else here. Just last weekend my mother was in the hospital coughing up blood. She was admitted and scoped to see where the blood was coming from. I hope you are well:)

I agree, this probably does warrant an ER trip. The last time I coughed up blood it was from two pulmonary embolisms which required immediate blood thinners and not from the sarc.

I think we all assume all of our symptoms are from Sarc because it is such a screwed up disease. My doc was very careful to point out that I should always tell him any new syptoms that I'm having and not assume it is sarc. Sarc and the medications we are on can cuase additional side affects and can sprak additional diseases. Ignoring one and not seeking treatment right away could be disasterous. My rule of thumb is if I can't breathe, if blood is coming from somewhere it shouldn't be, or I have an unusual sharp pain that is intense it's time to go to the ER.
Coughing up blood is never anything to mess with. The ER can run more tests and much quicker than your specialist can.

Thank you all for responding. I was told to go to the er by my rumatologist, not my pulmonologist. I did not go, however, after all the feed back I have received, and a call from my doc today to see if I went, I think now I am on my way. Thanks again, will keep you all informed.

Hello,

I just wanted to follow up and see how your trip to the ER went since you were coughing up blood?

I also had problems with loosing weight before I was diag. with sarc. I was skin and bones until I got on meds. I really never gained back any weight just a little flab around my waist, I think from the Prednisone. My Dr. said my body was so inflammed that I was burning off every thing that I was eating. Never had any problems with coughing up blood though.

Anyway, I was a little concerned about you, so I thought I would check up.
Keep us posted and take care,
