Root canal

0 Recommendations

Has anyone had a root canal Pryor to symptoms starting? I had one right before I started having symptoms, and I read about a connection between root canals and some forms of cancer. I have pain on the same side as the root canal, when I eat, in my jaw, head, shoulder, elbow, hand and foot. Coincidence? or connection?

I had four root canals done in 2004 before being diagnosed with sarcoid in June 2005 in hopes of saving my teeth because bone loss was occurring and 3 dentists didn't know why. I ended up losing all the teeth in April 2005 because the root canals did not help. After the surgery, the biopsy report was what caused me to go to the doctor to get a head-to-toe check because there was obviously something wrong. Sarcoidosis was one of the diseases listed as a possible cause for the dental problems. X-rays, CT scans and finally a lung biopsy confirmed it.

I don't believe the root canals are what "caused" the sarcoidosis. Now that I have been diagnosed, there were episodes of coughing and unexplained joint swelling that I experienced over the last 20 or so years that I now believe were in fact sarcoidosis flares.

That's very interesting question. I had attempted root canal, then gum surgery to complete it (apicoectomy). I had aweful symptoms during/after. Pain mostly-gum, cheek, ear, eye, jaw. They kept putting me on anti-biotics thinking it was infections. After seeing ENT, Oral Surgeon & finally neurologist who diagnosed me w/Trigeminal Neuralgia & put me on Tripleptal (seizure med) that really was a life saver for me. Light touch, wind, chewing, kissing etc. caused horrible pain. That was 2 1/2 yrs ago for me, with many other medical problems along the way before finally arriving here w/sarcoid diagnosis. SO who knows how or if it's related, but I thought I would respond. Mystery or coincidense...who knows.

I did not associate root canal procedures with sarcoid but I just had double root canal this week. I was diagnosed with pulm sarcoid Oct 08 and have been on Prednisone since. I question if the steroids play a part somehow overtime in needing the root canal.

I strongly suspect there is a connection. One month after a series of gum surgeries and bone grafts inserted in my jaw I was diagnosed when I developed tumors in the eye orbit. Everything seemed to clear up after a month on Prednisone but now a year later I just had more dental work, crowns replaced and have had reoccurring toothaches at site of crown replacement. Dentist said I need root canal or tooth pulled. I am due for another chest CAT scan to check on activitity of lymph nodes in chest - had 4 removed last year. Will not be surprised if it is active again as I have had some soreness in chest again. I mentioned to my doctor and dentist that I thought there was connection but they didn't seem to think much of the idea. I think there is just not enough known about this link.

I had the root canel pryor, I also was refinishing a table and spray painting my shutters and afterwards found it hard to breathe and had a persistant cough, I felt sick but had no fever.I also stoped having my periods around that time ( menopause) as I'm 53 years of age. I'm just trying to make sence of what happen to bring this on. can anyone think of anything that happened to them pryor to symtomns?

I know I'm a bit late to this discussion, but I believe in my heart that my sarcoid began on October 29th, 2004 when I had a root canal and 5 days later I couldn't smell or taste a thing.

I went back to the surgeon who performed the root canal and ask him why did I lose my sense of taste after the root canal procedure. He told me he has never had a complaint and never heard of someone losing their senses after a root canal.

Ok, then I went on quest to find the truth (HUH) . I told specialist after specialist what was going on and I was diagnosed with Anosmia. (Loss of Smell and Taste)

Now, today it's 5 years later and they tell me oh it looks like Sarcoidosis. I have not been on any medication for the last 5 years so of course I have scarring in my nasal passages, on my lungsand my eyes.

Yes, I sincerely believe that my problems began with the ROOT CANAL.

I have had 13 root canals but I am unsure what came first the Sarcoid or the problems with my teeth. I believe I was misdiagnosed in the 90's and have only recently been diagnosed with Sarcoid. There are so many things that fit it is amazing. I didn't take steriods until 22 months ago so for me it is not from that. I have seen posts about Sarcoid being very hard on your teeth/mouth and to get to a dentist at least twice a year.
Interesting topic!

organisms that cause sarcoidosis are commonly found in the mouth, as well as the dental office. Google :

Sarcoidosis and the Body
Sarcoidosis is a "multiorgan" disease - meaning it almost always involves more than one organ. It's unpredictable and affects different people in different ways.

You can learn about the ways in which sarcoidosis affects the body in FSR's Sarcoidosis and the Body brochure.
