Purple buising on legs with red patchy rash on legs and arms

Just in the last week or so, I've developed purple bruising on both legs. But prior to the bruising, I had already developed four different kind of rashes. Most are on my legs and arms with another kind on my abdomin which are ulcerated. I remember last year having many rash problems about this same time of year.

Anyone else having these problems? I'm not on prednisone, so I know that the bruising is not from that. I suppose it could be related to my BP med though. Just curious. Thanks.

Got it too!!! Went to a derm. dr. and she said not sarc and prescribed lotions, etc. ($100 worth!). Didn't help at all!!!! (I think she's nuts!)

If anyone has any answers for this, please let us know.

I agree, it sounds like erythema nodosum. I used to get it around my ankles and shins. It started after I had a surgery to remove appendix and ovarian cyst. It makes you feel worse systemically

Before your spots bruise, do you feel a soreness or slight pain in the spots? When my skin issues first started, that is what I experienced. I had more colorful skin plaques at first, but now I am experiencing some issues on my face. I do not want to have anymore surgeries so I've not had the skin scraping done to determine specific. Because I have sarcoidosis, I do believe that is what it is caused by.

It really has not been a big issue to me until it got on my face. It seems to be slowly getting better. It has left reddish and purple looking scars. Thank God for all my freckles!

That sounds exactly like Erythema Nodosum. During my first flare up, my feet and ankles were so swollen and painful that I could not walk without being in tears. I tried everything to reduce the swelling and the pain but only prednisone and percoset helped. If this started after you went off the prednisone that could be it.

She's not nuts, she made $100.00! But I know what you mean.

Yeah, have some of that going on too. I've always had some trouble with mysterious bruising, but this time it's very different from before. They were pretty much over-night and very large and very dark purple.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Always good to know that there are folks out there that "get it" when it comes to Sarcoid. It's also good to know that we can count on each other for information. Take care everyone!

Sarcoidosis and the Body
Sarcoidosis is a "multiorgan" disease - meaning it almost always involves more than one organ. It's unpredictable and affects different people in different ways.

You can learn about the ways in which sarcoidosis affects the body in FSR's Sarcoidosis and the Body brochure.
