Pulmonary Hypertension question

0 Recommendations

I have Sarcoid of my lungs. My heart rate is ususlly 110 resting and 130 with activity.
My echocaridogram is normal.

I'm a little curious because I hear many speaking of having Pulmonary Hypertension.

How do you know?

What test does the doctor do to make the diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension?

I don't know if your doctor has already tried sending you home with a Holter monitor for a 48 hour monitoring? But sometimes an echo or other tests that are minutes long don't catch what needs to be caught.

Thanks for responding. I am a little curious

Outside of the rapid heart rate, that I only am aware of when my pulse is taken, I'm find.

One of the measurements on an echocardiogram report should be Systolic PA Pressure. It should be under 30 mmHg. If the number is over 30mmHg it suggests pulmonary hypertension...a little over would be mild, significantly over moderate and so on. This number is an estimate only, measured by valve regurgitation, I think. There are more sophisticated tests to confirm pulmonary hypertension and to get a more accurate measurement.

What Is pulmonary hypertension; is that essentially high blood pressure?? And how is it related to sarcoid?

Tawney,
Thanks for the explanation of PH. My Echo was normal.
I'm thankful for my current diagnosis and prefer not to add on anymore :-) With my symptoms I was currious.

Joyce,
I'm not an expert on Pulmonary Hypertension, but it is high pressure between the heart and lungs.

I have Pulmonary Hypertension, I was first told that I have just hypertension, but the normal treatment for that wasn't working on me. So when I started to have coughing fits that ended with me passing out, the Heart Doctor, felt since I have stage 4 sarcoidosis, that I probably have Pulmonary Hypertension. I had allot of edema in my legs which didn't respond well, to the normal treatment.

In my case I had a normal blood pressure, but I have a abnormal pressure inside my lungs. I have been on PH meds now since Oct. They are not cheap, lucky for me, I have a program that reduces the price down to $65 compared to $4,000 that it normally cost.

jkouzes,

Thank you for your comment.
Meds $4000 dollars. I hope that's a years worth.

Interesting that you can have normal blood pressure but hypertension of the lungs.
The body is a miracle yet to be understood.

This staging of Sarcoidosis is new to me. First I've heard of it. How many stages are there?

May your condition continue to improve.

Sarcoidosis and the Body
Sarcoidosis is a "multiorgan" disease - meaning it almost always involves more than one organ. It's unpredictable and affects different people in different ways.

You can learn about the ways in which sarcoidosis affects the body in FSR's Sarcoidosis and the Body brochure.
