I was recently upped to 20mg (started two yrs ago @ 10mg weekly, slowly had to be increased) a week of methotrexate. so far all I've noticed is a huge increase in really bad reflux. Any one else at this level having other side effects. I've been told 20mg a week is as high a dose as recommended for meth.

I had reflux for many years before I was diagnosed with sarc, so I already take Protonix daily. Can't say I notice any difference. Last year I took 25mg of Methotrexate weekly until I couldn't take anymore of my hair falling out (and it was alot.) Plus I was having some right stomach pains so my Doc took me off of it
completly. That only lasted 2 months and all of my symptoms came back. Now I'm back up to 20mg weekly, same right stomach pains, but I'm not loosing as much hair. My Dr. has stated that 25mg is a safe dosage, of course every patient is different and obviously it's to high for me.
I have been told to increase my Folic Acid to 2mg daily instead of 1mg. Do you take Folic Acid? I have notice without it my stomach does hurt more. I also take Prednisone, which I was recently trying to get off of but reducing it put me back in a flare so my dosage has been increased again to control the disease. I know I'm ready for remission, not control!

I have been on 15 mg/week for almost two years now. I take 1 mg of folic acid a day. Fortunately, I haven't had ANY side effects from this medication and I think it's actually helped my breathing and my lung CT's are looking better. My pulm doc says that 15 is what he uses "most" of the time, so it sounds like you are on a little higher dose than normal.

I also developed acid reflux, heartburn and nausea. I would wake up at night coughing. We thought it might be the sarc in my lungs but after my Dr. put me on PREVACID (lansoprazole) I have had no problems. I think it was caused by the methotrexate but the prevacid completely eliminated it.

Dose depends on body weight and symtoms mostly. I had bad problems with feeling sick when taking tablets, switching to injecting myself and I no longer get tummy problems. Now I just feel as though I've been out for a beer the day after the injection. Nothing much, just a bit tired. Then I'm ok again by the next day.
The day after injecting methotrexate, I tend to crave for fresh fruit.. and eat a lot of it. Must be my body telling me what to eat again..

I take methotrexate by injection 25 mgs a week. I have noticed a little reflux but not as much as it was when I was on the tablets. I was sick every day with those. I am still taking 5 mgs of prednisone, but I am having some serious infections starting after I began taking the methotrexate. Next month they will take another Ace test and see if my numbers are up or down. I don't know what they do after that. On 20 mgs of prednisone my eyes turned red and inflamed. That was scary since I have cataracts as well from either prednisone or plaquenil which I took last year. I guess I do what they say and hang on for the ride.
