Master Cleanse?

0 Recommendations

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has tried the master cleanse diet with sarcoid. and if so were you on any meds at the time, and did it help? I am considering the master cleanse, but I am on 10 mg prednisone every day...I have been on prednisone since february 2008, and at my wits end! I have no energy, am full of water, and have horrible mood swings, and pain in my whole body...I am only 28 years old and have a 19 month old to try and keep up with...

A site member sent me the master cleanse diet (I liked the idea and hope to use it someday), but with all my drugs and reduced immunity, I was advised not to start a rigorous diet now. So, please consult your doc first.
I will tell you that on pred, the contributors to feeling the worst for me are salt, simple carbs, sugars, junk food. I eat lean carbs, fruit, veg and the least of my diet is complex carbs. I can see the difference when I stray.... balloon face/water weight puff. I also feel worse, more pain.
Read labels carefully. (Example: my splurge is a frozen pizza that is organic, low sodium, lactose free on whole wheat. Knowing this was a treat, a friend brought over several of the same brand but different variety- the sodium was 10 times more, it was refined flour and calories were double. )
I also eat small more frequent meals. This became neccesary with taking drugs, but I noticed my energy stays up better that way. When my kids were little, like yours, and there was no time for preparations, a couple times a week I'd cut up fruit, raw veg and make a big batch of baked chicken to have on hand to grab when needed. I do the same thing now. Berries and grapes are also great frozen as as quick icy treat. Just some ideas..
Hug that little one for me!

Please don't do anything drastic now. There's a big tempation to try anything/everything but you are somebody's Mom so you cannot take chances...just for now do as TG and ellj suggest -healthy food, lots of water.
Was your age when I was diagnosed also with a small baby, the good news for me I got better and the sarc left me for years. Let's have it the same thing happens to you only it never comes back -- it can happen -- be kind to yourself!
Good thoughts,
Jeanie

Thanks for the advice ellj! I already have an appt to speak with my pulmonologist about my options. I do hope that she will be receptive to my ideas. I didn't mention that I am a registered nurse and have done quite a bit of research on the topic, but I am afraid to try because of all the possible negative outcomes. Although I also feel that it might help me. So I will talk to my doc and hopefully she can help! Thanks again!

What is the Master Cleanse diet?

Just curious why you think the MC would be beneficial to you? It seems unhealthy but I don't know.

I've been looking to do a cleanse and am wondering what you think the specific benefits of this cleanse would be?

Thank you

Actually, I am now planning to start fruit and vegetable juice fasting instead of the master cleanse. Reason being is that with this kind of fast you still get many vit and nutrients. I believe that this might help to detoxify my body. I gave been speaking with a person that used veg and fruit fasting to help with lupus. She eventually was free from symptoms. Anyways, this seems to be a healthy thing to do whether u have sarcoidosis or not...

I am no nutritionist, but I agree with the others wisdom aforementioned. We sarkies are tempted to
get a quick "fix" and thus far, good common sense is a best approach. Every sarkie is like a snowflake, we all respond differently however we are linked in the same way we all suffer from sarcoidosis. Listen to your body, take small steps, record your results so you know if you truly feel better when you eat more veggies, drink more water and more fruits than when you eat more carbs, sugar and junk food.
Stay well, and do eat smaller meals more often. Nothing like child rearing to take any strength you had away from you.
God bless,
Glowgirl

Sarcoidosis and the Body
Sarcoidosis is a "multiorgan" disease - meaning it almost always involves more than one organ. It's unpredictable and affects different people in different ways.

You can learn about the ways in which sarcoidosis affects the body in FSR's Sarcoidosis and the Body brochure.
