My daughter wanted me to ask if anyone has joint pain without swelling. She is on pain pills because she has extreme pain in her head, wrists, hands, hips, and ankles. The doctor tells he believes it not related Sarcoid because there isn't any swelling. However, these symploms started at the same her shortness and racing heart started.

it can absolutely cause pain without swelling. i have muscularskeletal symptoms all the flair ups i have had which mostly affect my lower extremities such as feet ankles and knees and i have never had any swelling. i was in the same condition i couldn't even walk and put on pain meds but also blasted with a high dose of prednisone which would take care of it every time your doctor should check her ace levels to see if there elevated and possible a bone scan every time i had a flair up my ace was elevated but not everyone can be monitored because the ace doesn't show in a lot of people my bone scan also show sarcoid in my bones
You now have the daily double because my pains show up without the intendant swelling and sometimes I would prefer the swelling so I could actually have something to swipe up the side of some of them twits in the medical profession. It would advance our cause greatly if more of them caught our disease but as it stands they have to rely on some idiotic books that do not state what is happening to us.
I don't know why doctors make comments like this. I am sure that if we all answered you, probably something like 80 - 90% of us probably have joint pains without swelling. This is an inflammatory illness, derrr! I have pain everywhere and the only swelling is where there are clumps of granulomas.
You can absolutely have joint pain without swelling. I have had this for many years (since early 90s). Only in last yr or 2 has my left knee been swollen, but never hot.
I wish doctors would stay updated on info or at least research a disease that a patient has when they're unfamiliar with it.

i have been thrown out of so many drs offices because of pain without swelling and the drs send me to rhumy's and no rhumy wants to see me because i don't have swelling. they will not explain this to me.
i have pain in nearly every joint every day and the pain level changes due to activity, the day, sometimes the weather, sometimes, just because.

Yes I have joint pain without any obvious pain. I bet though that there actually is minor swelling either of the bones or joints themselves or surrounding nerves. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean its not there.
Lots of pain in ankles, top of feet, fingers, no swelling. The pain moves around alot.

Same here, pain without swelling.. and swelling too sometimes, randomly. The pain has me waking up and crying out at night it's so bad.

Absolutely...I have terrible joint pains without swelling, as well. It seems to make it difficult for doctors to concede to the fact that we have joint pain when they can't see the swelling (which is so absurd).

absolutely! For over 5 years I have had this same problem. I am finally off the Tramadol, and am controlling the pain with Naproxen and lots of it. No swelling to be seen, the Rheum doc is so confused, but keeps treating me. Exercise in a pool helps me tremendously, which may help your daughter. I use 24 hour fitness with a pool there, so I can go whenever i want and the pain has been cut in half since I started this 2 months ago. If you want to know more specifics I will be happy to let you know what I know!
I MOST definitely have joint pain without the swelling. However, I haven't had pain in almost 3 months because I cut out every food but fruit, veggies and fish. I know I know, most can't stick to that but I tell you what, NO PAIN what so ever since all inflammatory foods cut out :)
Hi pat, it is pretty cool that you are being proactive in researching about what ails your daughter. even though i am 37, My mother is the same way (on the internet for hours). she'll call and tell me something she found out. but to answer your question, yes i also have pain in joints but no signif. infl. mainly just my kness and elbows hurt. more worried about long stretches in which both of my knees are almost totally numb. has any of you guys had problems w/ this?
My hand is raised, joint pain without swelling. It's hard to use my hands to type this, but you can't see it from the outside at all.
Lots of pain without swelling. The smaller the joint, the bigger the pain (not as much space for the granulomas to build up in I guess). Is your doc at least willing to treat you even if he thinks it's unrelated? I have to agree with the diet management as well...amazing how much less pain without the inflammatory foods.
Add me to the list w/pain. I have a band around my chest, like I'm wearing a bra two sizes too small, chest hurting. My knees give out while walking, rt knee grinds and feels like rocks, (no swelling), floaters in my eyes, completely drained of energy, etc...Drs. say I am in remission since I'm Stage IV Pulmanary and not dead, yet, but it sure doesn't feel like it. Last time I finally convinced my Dr. something was wrong, my gall bladder got sucked out.
I have been suffering all over bodypain and sweats for over 3 years now, which have left doctors saying its fibromyalgia/M.E, i also suffered from terrible pain in abdomen, after the second laporoscopy they have found that by bowel was adhered together and to my abdomen wall due to inflamation they think, i am still being told that i have fibromyalgia by my GP, even though he will not properly diagnose this and that other specialists say that all over body pain can be a symptom of gastric dieases like crohns, this is because of your immune system going crazy and malabsorbion of vital Vitamins, because my joints are not swollen and bloods test are normalish my gp will not consider this !!! had to fight for a scan which should be done soon
Joint pain is one of the symptoms I can never get rid of!!! No swelling for me either. Even when I am feeling my absolute best, I still have pain in every joint. Even my fingers and toes hurt. Some doc's just dont know. My doc told me that chest pain wasnt related to sarc!!
