Home from VATS Lung Biopsy Procedure

0 Recommendations

I wrote a couple of weeks ago seeking advice/info on the VATS Lung Biopsy my doctors wanted me to have. Well, I had it Wed, 10-28 and came home Friday night. So glad to be home. I know NOTHING though about what they found. Said they got two good sections of "diseased lung" to test. Preliminary test results may come in the middle of this week, probably 2-3 weeks though before I find out anything. Thanks for everyone's advice and good wishes. Did others have to wait 2-3 weeks to find out something, though? Rather a long time, it seems to me.

Cancer Surgery Sarcoidosis

Hi Marilyn,

I had the same procedure and yes, it was about 2 weeks before my Dr. had a final result. They told me right after surgery that it was not cancer, I assume they check for that ASAP. They did say it looked like it was most likely sarcoidosis while I was recovering in hospital, but I think it takes so long to get a definite answer because, from what my Dr. told me, there is no actual "test" so to speak to diagnose sarcoidosis, but rather it's diagnosed after all other possibilities are exhausted and ruled out.

Best of luck to you and glad you are recovering well!!!

Jen :)

Took me almost 3 weeks to get my results back. Sarc is a diagnosis of exclusion and microscopic diagnosis is made by following a "flow chart tree"...and, of course, sarc is way dwn at the flippin' bottom of the chat.

Glad your VATS procedure went better than mine!

Help and information from FSR

Sarcoidosis and the Body
Sarcoidosis is a "multiorgan" disease - meaning it almost always involves more than one organ. It's unpredictable and affects different people in different ways.

You can learn about the ways in which sarcoidosis affects the body in FSR's Sarcoidosis and the Body brochure.
