Sarcoidosis made PEOPLE MAGAZINE in the passages section, page 84 of The Pitt-Jolie Twins issue. At least being in this particular issue, people will see mention of the disease, even if Bernie Mac denies it is a complication of his disease. "AILING" "Bernie Mac, 50, was hospitalized for pneumonia in his native Chicago. A spokeswoman said the actor and comedian "is responding well to treatment and will be released soon." She added the the pneumonia is not related to Mac's diagnosis of sarcoidosis, an autoimmune disease that has been in remission since 2005."

Yeah I read that too but he was saying back in 2003 and 2004 that he was not bothered by the disease. Ok so remission in 2005 was after it gave him no issues.
I am sure that if he comes clean and admits what a horrible disease it is he will never work again. Like I said we need a spoksperson to come forward and push for more research etc.
I would even be happy if the series House finally did a show on it. They mention it all the time but never do a show that it ends up being the problem.

Hi Bunkie,

I didn't see it, however I was told by a collegue of mine that she was watching HOUSE they did do a show on Sarc. Since she was aware of my situation, she ended up watching the show when normally it's her husband that does.

I agree, until a "celebrity" is diagnosed, WE need to get the word out. Especially since it's National Sarc Awareness day Aug-29.

Cheers....

I just read that Bernie Mac died today. They keep saying it was not related to his sarcoidosis though. I don't understand how they can say that. I have had pneumonia twice. Being on treatment for sarc also causes lower immunity and alows you to get pneumonia and such other illnessnes. It can be in remission and then suddenly come back with a vengence. Maybe more will be looked into it and mentioned. Cathy

His auto immune condition probably contributed to his catching staph or something like similar which probably killed him. Does anyone know more specifics?

Wow, and he was only 50 and had the best kind of treatment anyone could ever have. Let's wait to see what his autopsy says?? Makes me glad I've had the pneumonia shot! God Bless Us All and Keep US Safe! Sarasota

Hi there,

It was mentioned that National Sarcoid Awareness Day is August 29. My question is, what can we do to bring about awareness? What will be happening on that day? I haven't seen anything (surprise, surprise) mentioned in my community about that day, but how can I find out for sure? Thanks for any ideas.

I saw that episode it was really good, up until now i was pretty blind to the effects of what i have but the Bernie mac situation has made me really think about things.

I HEARD ABOUT BERNIE MAC ON CNN & IT WAS MENTION LATER ON IN THE DAY THAT HIS SARCOIDOSIS WAS RELATED TO HIS DEATH. DUE TO THE LUNG. THEY ALSO HAD A DR. TALKING ABOUT SARCOIDISIS BUT HE DIDN'T SAY MUCH BECAUSE HE DID NOT HAVE MUCH TIME. & HE TOLD THE NEWS PERSON THAT. HE SAID THAT IT WOULD TAKE MORE THAN 1 SHOW.

Did anyone see the Entertainment Tonight (I THINK) where his co-stars, one of them female talked about how he was constantly on oxygen this last year, that he had to lay down between shots for the show and that he was exhausted but determined?! Then they showed him in his golf cart going around the studio while using his oxygen...God love him..It was the most honest thing I have heard about the disease and Bernie Mac so far. Bless his family for making the foundation for Sarcoidosis their charity of choice as mentioned on Larry King Live during their tribute to him..it is listed on the Larry King website at CNN. How sad it took this to get exposure..

Well IF he had pulmonary sarc.. He might of had scarring in his lungs that would had reduced his lung function. That would make the pneumonia ALOT more dangerous... Who knows???

I have Sarcoidosis in my lungs since diagnosed in 1990 and it was still until last year but sadly to say i am sure if he could have he would have bought him self a new pair of lungs the only thing berni Mac had better he had more money to see better doctors but they could not save him from passing with this disease either son there it shows we are all human. God Bless him. P.S. It had to take Bernie Mac to show that this disease is out there.

US magazine has a nice article on him. Just bought it. Lets hope some more magazines will do one.
Bunkie

The magazine article also mentioned that he smoked cigars. I am sure that smoking cigars was not a positive thing for his condition. I wonder how much being a stand up in smokey clubs also affected him as the flying around for movies and long days on the set. He supposedly told people in 2007 that he intended to retire. Maybe he also knew that something about his lifestyle was aggravating his condition.
