Flu Shot?

Does anyone have an opinion about getting a flu shot? I was diagnosed in March of this year.

Thanks

I was diagnosed this year and My Pulmonary Specialist says you need to have the flu shot every year and the Pnumonia shot I believe every 5 years? Anyway he says anyone with Sarc should take them. I have taken it for the last few years not even knowing about sarc and it has helped tremendously with my Colds and Bronchitis every year. You really should consult your personal Physician though.

Good info from cemdupree. I was told the same and do it religiously every year.

I was told also to make sure I had a flu shot although it is not as affective for us as it is a person with normal health history. I get mine religiously now even it gives me any potential hope from not getting the flu. I still got the flu last year anyway, but I have one scheduled for the 14th of Novemeber this year. I had my Pneumo Vax last year. Make sure you get one of those as well. That is really important :)

Hope this helps!

Yes, flu shot is a 'must have' for me every year. It's worth it if your Doc gives the green light.

Haven't heard about the other shot for Pneumonia, but will call my doc about that one!

Definitely get the flu shot if the doc says ok! Getting mine on friday!!!

Also the pneumonia shot every 5 years really does work! I used to get pneumonia almost yearly until I got this vaccine! Now, I still get bronchitis, but have not had actual pneumonia in several years!!! (Saves the lungs some wear and tear!!!)

I read somewhere too that they are supposed to be starting a vaccine soon for the elderly to prevent Shingles! Perhaps they may also give this to those of us with messed up immune systems! (not sure how this vaccine differs from the chicken pox vaccine for kids since I believe chicken pox and shingles come from the same virus, but something to look into! Shingles can be very very painful!!!)

Be well!!!

I went to my pcp last week for a severe migraine and while I was there, she had the tech jab both my arms, one for the flu the other for the pneumonia! I think its worth having a sore arm for a day or two!

I get mine tomorrow, The pneumonia shot I got 2 years ago.

I had my flu shot a couple weeks ago. I get it religiously every year! I used to get Bronchitis every year until I started getting the flu shot. Since I started getting the flu shot I haven't had one bout with Bronchitis, that alone makes it worth it!!

I get mine every year......it's a must! Somehow, I missed taking it last year, and did ok. I also stayed away from people during the winter month. This year, I am getting mine on the 28th! If your doc says it is ok....get it!

My rheumetologist recommends the flu shot and the pneumonia shot. I had one last year and had the flu shot and pneumonia shot last week.
He did not say anything about the shingles shot, though. Are we likely to get shingles?

The only times I have had the flu was after receiving the flu shot. I stay away from the flus shot and have never had the flu. My doctor agrees not to take it.

unique64, your response fits your name! haha
I'm wondering if I should get a flu shot because I rarely get the flu - even if my husband and kids get it (which is once every few years). I've never had a flu shot in my life and worry about introducing a virus into my body....I'm thinking if it aint broke, don't fix it..... I'll ask my doc.

I am with Unique64, I stay away from ALL vaccines.

Have you done any independant research on your own and not take a doctors word for it? If anything from this site we have witnessed many doctors don't know everything.

Know what you are putting into your body before you take someones word for it. If a doctor said drink poison because it will help you, would you? Have you ever thought with all the cancer research going on, why is cancer even more prevelant than before as more people getting sick?

I have never gotten a flu shot and have been around many that have. They were sick and I was not. Here in Toronto, Most Ambulance Drivers and Many Nurses won't take the flu shot, begs the question.

I urge you to do your own research.

My PCP highly recommended both flu & pneumonia vaccines. I've never been big on taking them even though I'm a nurse. However, after weighing the pros and cons against the risks of becoming seriously ill I will get them from here on. Not only are we at risk b/c of the sarcoid but many of the meds we take increase the chances of becoming sicker than usual. I don't know about you but I'm trying to do everything I can to keep the Sarc Monster at bay.

My physician recommended that I do not get either shot. I was hospitalized with pnuemonia and he still wouldn't allow me to get them. I haven't had the flu in over 15 years. I do become a hermit during the cold and flu season. Maybe I will revisit the issue with him on my next visit.

The flu vaccine shot is NOT a live virus, however.... the nasal spray vaccine IS.

So you can't get the flu from the 'shot'. (There are age requirements for the nasal spray vaccine.)

Parodox should be able to help in this area.

Everyone has there own opinion when it comes to flu shots. I guess it's a personal decision between you and your physician.

God Bless!

Thanks everyone for your feedback...Yesterday I was sure I was going to get one, but now I have to do more research.

Paradox, it would be great if you could give some feedback. Your opinion would be appreciated.

I do get the flu quite regularly and have already been sick once this year. Also I am a cancer survivor (5 years, breast) so I wonder if that has any bearing on my decision.

Thanks again everyone, this question will come up with my doctor next week.

Stephanie

I did not say that the flu shot was live virus, I just said the only times I have ever had the flu was after getting the flu shot. It may have been a coincidence, however my doctors agree no flu shot if it has happened twice and twice had the flu.

I didn't mean it to be directed to you, it was meant to be in general. "Sorry if you took it that way!"

I work in a hospital and anytime a person is sick they try to blame it on the shot.

Like I said, it's personal and between you and your physician. Everyone has their own views and rightly so!

Take care and God Bless,
Trae~

For years I got the flu shot and got sick. Last year my Doctor said for me not to get it. I didn't get sick. I have had every kid of pneumonia shot they have come up with for the past 15 years. I haven't gotten pneumonia in at least 10 years. I went to the Doctor Tuesday and I got the flu shot my arm swelled up and is hot to the touch. I have felt like crap all day. I hope it doesn't make me sick. I truly think any of my health care is my own personal choice. I can decide what I am will to do or not as long as I can make an informed decision and live with the consequences. My prayers are with you all, EricaHope
