Does anyone have diabetes and sarc here? I am wondering if the two are somehow related.
Exercise Aspirin Glipizide Psoriasis Diabetes Pain Prednisone Fibromyalgia Sarcoidosis Methotrexate
i have both. my diabetes was coused by long tirm use of prednisone. other sarc meds can couse high sugar as well. as far as the disese itself, i dont think it can cause diabetes.
Prednisone caused me to have Diabetes. One of the evil side effects of that love/hate drug!
Hi gisu. I have type 1 diabetes. I was diagnosed 2 - 5 years after the sarcoid. I've had diabetes for 25 years. No one in my family has diabetes or sarcoid. I'm not sure if it's related but haven't had any of my doctors say it is. Are you diabetic? Have you had any problems because of it?
I had diabetes for about 10 yrs prior to sarc. Bro. diagnosed at age 12, he's 40 now. I was told though usually if you have one autoimmune disease you will more than likely get more. Psoriasis runs in my family too.
I have low sugar so I can't take prednisone or I will have the flip side and have high sugar pretty quickly.

Yes I have both. My doctor said it was from the steroids. I think it came from living in my refrigerator while on the steroids
If you are on prednisone, it can cause diabetes. This is why many people suffering sarcoidosis have diabetes 2.
I have Pre diabetes due to Prednisone use and High Blood Pressure due to Prednisone use. I am able to control both thru Diet and Cardio Training. Low sugar and low starch diet seems to help me.

shrty368 I think you are absolutely right....I am borderline diabetic from being on pred and constantly chewing
Yes, I developed diabetes after being on the prednisone for 2 years. I now take Glipizide twice a day for my blood sugars. My doc told me if I would walk more and exercise it would help, but it's a catch-22, cause with sarc and fatigue and fibromyalgia, you don't feel like exercising, even though it would lower your blood sugars.
Yes! I've been a diabetic for 25 years. Although, on insulin four times a day since last November. It's been a really hard balance. Especially with the steroids I WAS taking. I was driving down the road and felt funny. Knowing it was just about lunch time. I checked my blood and it was 600! I had always had a difficult time keeping it under 300 throughout the day. I called my specialist at UCSF and told him I was done with the pred. He agreed to it. I personally will not take steroids anymore. I felt horrible and it raised havoc with my diabetes. You will need to pick your own battle. I choose not to take steroids. The methotrexate (10 mg) has not affected my blood sugar, but makes me tired and sick. I always say "listen" to your body. I'm the stubborn type. It's been difficult for me. But I want to have control over my own body. Even though the sarcoids are telling me differently. Good luck!!!!!!

I am diabetic bc I had to have my pancreas removed in 06 bc of chronic pancreatitis. I'm not sure about treating my sarc with prednisone bc of being diabetic though.
This is such a hard decision to make. When I was first diagnosed I took prednisone for almost 12 months and I did experience a lot of relief from pain and fatigue. I worked extremely hard to avoid putting on weight. I also had the mistaken belief that pred could induce remission. After weighing up all the negative effects of prednisone I chose to wean myself off it. I was very careful and went very slowly. It is still very painful and fatiguing when you are first pred free.
I am currently medication free, although my doctor would be happier if I took prednisone. I follow an anti-inflammatory diet, which helps a lot and avoid certain foods which are known triggers for sarkies. Occasionally I take a low dose of soluble aspirin if the pain is really bad, otherwise I just try to keep moving because if I lie or sit around the pain is worse. I do lots of regular exercise. This works for me but everybody has to make their own mind up on how to deal with this illness.
Good Afternoon Krissy~
I too have this awful disease and I too have been not taking my full dose of steroids and wanting to wean off it my self, How long did it take you to wean off it and how did you do it? After you stopped you said you had pain? How long did that last? Just curious..do tell..lol

I also have been battling sarc for over long period of time(0ver 20years), I was diagnosed with diabetes 3 years ago. It's been a real
rollercoaster ride with my blood sugars and my sarc symptoms. I've
been learning it only gets worse over time. Just hang in there. kyma63
I do. I have always wondered if my diabetes was the result of being on Prednisone for so long at such high doses. When I was taking it, my dosage was as high as 60 mg for several months before I was weaned off. Don't know how valid that is, but I have always wondered...
