I HAVE BEEN SO DEPRESSED LATELY FROM DEALING WITH THE SARCOID. I HAVE GAINED 50 POUNDS AND FEEL LIKE A BIG, FAT, BLIMP. I FEEL TIRED AND ACHY ALL THE TIME. I KNOW ALOT OF YOU FEEL THE SAME WAY. HOW DO WE GET ON WITH OUR LIVES AND LIVE THIS WAY? I THINK I'M JUST HAVING A BUM DAY :(

Hi Chanelbenorr,
First let me say unfortunately depression and autoimmune diseases can sometimes go hand in hand. I am bipolar was diagnosed bipolar way before I was ever diagnosed with Sarc. I have experienced episodes of mania and episodes of deep depression. When you say your depressed what do you really mean?
Everyone feels sad sometimes and there are situations in our lives that can cause us to be depressed. Living with this illness at times can most certainly be one of them. I'm a strong believer in being evaluated. Not by a family physcian but by a psychiatrist.
Depression is a chemical imbalance in a brain and is a physical problem that can manifest itself physically and mentally. Weight gain-loss among a host of other things are all common symptoms. You posted this tonight because your hurting so take the next step. Pick up the phone tomorrow and call a psychiatrist get evaluated and see what they say. If you need to talk I'm here in the meantime.
Much love:)

Hi,chanelbenorr,
So sorry to hear about your rough times. Do you think they are related to any meds that you are taking. I can certainly identify esp with the weight gain. That alone is enough to make you feel depressed b/c it is such a sense of having no control over what is happening to you. Since I became ill, I've often felt like I was living in someone else's body.

Paradox recently did a terrific job of collating info about the various and sundry meds used for treating sarcoid. You can check it out under his journal at

Hope this helps and that you are feeling better soon. I agree with SarcoidPrincess---don't suffer alone. There are many who are will to listen and who understand your frustration.

Take care,

thank you so much. i have had depression for about 15 years. it really stinks. You were right, i was feeling really bad last night. I saw a recent picture of myself and just started crying. I'm glad there are others out there who understand. Thank you again

Dear chanelbenorr,

I'm also dealing with debilitating depression and panic attacks. So far, the only way I know how to carry on is living one hour at a time and having a great support group of friends and this lovely site. My heart goes out to you and if you don't mind I'll add you to my prayer list.

Much love,
Jackie7

Not a problem. I know how you feel when I started antidepressants I gained 100 lbs. I'm loosing it now not the right way but because of the sarc. It stinks this way and wish I could have done it the right way to begin with. But you know what to do if the depression doesn't let up right? Get to that doctor!
