Blood shot eyes

0 Recommendations

I was only diagnosed last week and just learning about sarc. I see a specialist this week to find out more. Does anyone suffer from blood shot and dry eyes? People for years were always asking if I was tired because my eyes were so blood shot. I have to use clear eyes drops everyday so that people dont think I am stoned haha.
My vision is fine but I do get floaters and see spots.

I am so I happy I found this site so I can talk to people all over the world. I live in New Zealand

I just started waking up in the morning with a little blood shot eyes, not too much. But my vision is blurry sometimes and I get Ocular Migraines all the time. I also see tiny white flashes alot too. I went to an Opthamologist a year a ago when I started getting the Ocular Migraines, but now that I know I have sarcoidosis, I should go back.

I would definitely suggest you go see an Opthamologist right away if you have not been yet. Sarcoidosis can effect the eyes big time!!

god bless

Hello Pataim,
I've looked stoned for years! I used to use eye drops for years. I do see floaters and spots as well. The eye doc told me that my eyes will get used to the eye drops and stop working and its true. I just stopped using them unless my eyes get really dry which they do sometimes.

Thanks for your reply. Eye drops dont really work for me anymore either. I my have to continue look stoned.
:o)

I feel like I'm on a soapbox with the eye story. People! Sarcoidosis can cause glaucoma - and many other ailments within your ocular cavity!! GO TO THE DOCTOR!!! Many over the counter drops can make the situation much worse, and even the wrong prescription can harm the eye! I was only diagnosed in March 07, cause my sarcoidosis presented in my eyes. I had my first glaucoma surgery Nov. 07, 2 surgery (to reposition the stent) in Feb. 08, and the other eye went crazy in June and July (pressure at 60) and had surgery done on July 7!! And I was going to the glaucoma specialist at least every other week; if not every week for pressure checks and drops so many times a day. Don't wait!! This is serious!! Read about uveitis, symptoms of sarcoidosis, etc. etc. etc. My doctor had never seen so much scar tissue in anyones eye before. They tried to numb the area with a localized anesthesia, numbing drops, etc. Nothing worked! I felt the entire first surgery. You can't deaden scar tissue! The 2nd and 3rd surgery; they actually put me out! Thank God! Although, they did try the 3rd surgery in the beginning without putting me out. The anesthesiologist said I really didn't know if I could tolerated the surgery with only the drops and shot! I felt the first 3 incisions and said "Enough!" Major scar tissue (so much) the doctor said if he hadn't known any better, he would swear I had had previous surgery in the right eye because there was so much scar tissue! SO, AGAIN, let me insist you ALL don't mess around with your eyes!! Go see an opthamologist, glaucoma specialists as soon as you can. There are markers early on and any change will be evident at your next visit! Please take care, SarasotaSandy

My eyes have been bloodshot for a long time now and also sore. Since DEcember last year they have got worse and people also think I have been on the booze every day. I look like Count Dracula sometimes due to the redness of my eyes. I am waiting to see the eye doc and also to see if they will give me steroid drops for them. I will just have to wait and SEE! what happens.

I know what you mean! I said I was the "Zombie" on the block; or Dracula's Bride, etc. etc. etc. But friends, family and co-workers unstood what I was going thru; so I did get lots of support. My doctor goes on vacation and leaves me his cell #! Pretty cool. So, even though many doctors don't understand all of this (nobody does) I can at least get their attention when I need it! Thank God for small miracles. My best to you and I hope you have your eyes feeling better very soon! Keep in touch, SarasotaSandy

I agree to have your eyes checked by an opthamologist. And then, if everything checks out OK, it's back to the "seeking a no more stoned-look". :)

I have found the perfect eye drop for my bloodshot and dry eyes. I can even wear my contacts again without reaching for the eye drops every half hour. It's called GenTeal Lubricant Eye Gel and I use the Severe Dry Eye Relief version. It's made by Novartis and their website is www.genteal.com. I hope you can get it in New Zealand.

There are SO MANY reasons why a regular opthalmologist visit is priority for sarcoidosis sufferers. Even if we don't actually have a problem with uveitis or glucoma, many of us suffer from extremely dry eyes because of the sarc. This is extremely uncomfortable and can be painful. My specialist recommended three levels of eye lubricants to get through the day. They are all available over the counter without prescription. Just the tear-like lubricant to get through the day, the sterile, individually packed ones for when the eyes are sore and the gel before sleep (although the gel gives you the most relief from dryness, you can't see very well after application).

I wake up most morning with the red eye look. I first just gave up on makeup and that made people worry about me more. So i grab the eye drops everyday and carry them with me to use thoughout the day. I also see floaters. I am going to the op in 2 weeks, it has been awhile since my last check up. I also am glad I found this site, i am learning alot here.

I just had eye tests done that showed a number for the tear production in my eyes to be at the low end .

That being said, I also have had some eye issues like your talking about, but I just try and limit my time in situations that agitate them, I also take a flaxseed supplement and use warm compress daily to help.

This along with a nice gentle eye massage has helped my eye irritation some I feel.

Hope you find relief.

sarasota is right.............. you only get TWO eyes..... i've been on steroid eye drops and restasis for mine.
over the counter eye drops (in multi-use bottles) can actually damage your eyes......as my doctor says if you really have to use them get the "single serving" only!!!!! SEE AN OPTHOMOLOGIST! its amazing how fast the injuries in the eyes occur. heres to a brighter day! eileen

this was the initial symptom and how I eventually found out that I had sarcoidosis and I have found (and my doctor has advised) that fluorescent lighting is one of the worst things for the 'red eye'. Watch out for the shops and offices with no natural lighting and only fluorescent tubes as my eyes react within minutes as obviously yours did in the toy department.
Thankyou for this site and your imput everybody as it is nice to feel not so alone with these silly symptoms.
