BACK FROM DALLAS

0 Recommendations

We went to Dallas to UT Southwest Monday. Shane had a spinal tap done, still have not heard the results. Dr. Courtney, who is a very great doctor, said that she was leaning more to neurosarcoidosis than anything else. Does anyone know how long it takes for the results to come back??? I am worried. Shane has been in alot of pain since the procedure. He says he just hurts all over. Anyways, when I hear something I will let everyone know. GOD bless

Is Courtney the doctors first name or last name? What does he/she specialize in? I live in Dallas and was just wondering for future reference.

I hope you get the answers you need.

Hi Missymom,

This all depends on the doctor and now with the holidays coming up they are rare to find working these days.

It never hurts to call a few times and bug them and if you are close enough go and get a copy of the reports. You should have a copy of every report made on anything and kept in a binder.

Sorry he feels so bad,

Missymom, (some web info below)

Post spinal tap pain causes
Spinal headaches are caused by leakage of spinal fluid through a puncture hole in the membrane that surrounds the spinal cord. This leakage decreases the pressure exerted by the spinal fluid on the brain and spinal cord, which leads to a headache.

Spinal headaches typically appear within five days after a spinal tap or spinal anesthesia. Both of these procedures require doctors to puncture the membrane that surrounds the spinal cord.

Sometimes epidural anesthesia may lead to a spinal headache as well. Although epidural anesthesia is injected just outside the membrane that surrounds the spinal cord, a spinal headache is possible if the membrane is inadvertently punctured.

Risk factors
Spinal headaches are most common in adults ages 18 to 30 and those who already have a headache at the time of a spinal tap or spinal anesthesia. Spinal headaches affect twice as many women as men. The risk of spinal headaches increases with larger needles and multiple punctures in the membrane that surrounds the spinal cord.

When to seek medical advice
Consult your doctor if you develop a headache after a spinal tap or spinal anesthesia — especially if the headache gets worse when you sit up, stand or cough.

conqureorinfaith,

Courtney is her last name, I am thinking her first name is Aridth. She is a good doctor, she spent like 4 hours with us the other day, asking all sorts of questions about what is happening. Let me know if I can help.

Missymom32:
Thank you for your reply. Do you have a phone number for her? I would be interested in getting in for a future appointment. Have you heard anything from Shane's doctor yet? If not, I would give it a week and if you haven't heard by then, by all means contact Dr. Courtney's office. Hope Shane is feeling better.
Diane

diane,

Her number is 214-645-8800 and her name is ardith courtney ( like I was thinking lol). We heard from her Friday, but not all test results were back yet, the ones that have showed nothing. But she did say that if they came back negative, she had lots more test she wanted to run. YIPY!! Shane has been feeling better lately just tired and starting to get out of breath, not a good sign. We did get to go to a concert last night, Big Daddy Weave was in Tyler. It was a good night out, something we both needed. anyways, I will keep everyone informed. Thanks for all your payers.
