Any opinions on surgery

0 Recommendations

Hi guys,
Just had a visit with my general practioner. I have been in and out of the hospital all summer due to hypercalcemia. (due to my ravaged spleen). He recommended a spleenectomy (think that is the right word)........But on the other hand my rheumatologist who is educated on sarciod doesnt recommend it. I am starting humira next week. Any suggestions on the spleen situation? And has humira helped anybody out there??? Thanks guys. Tish

I would listen to my Rheumie at this point in time. Is the spleen still functioning? is it causing you incapacitating pain? If you can tolerate what's going on now, why not give the medication a chance to improve things? If not the other option is always on the table.

Good luck,
I.

Thanks Irene. I guess there is no hurry. I am just depressed sitting at home feeling like this. Well I guess it is all part of being sick. Take care. Tish

Help and information from FSR

Sarcoidosis and the Body
Sarcoidosis is a "multiorgan" disease - meaning it almost always involves more than one organ. It's unpredictable and affects different people in different ways.

You can learn about the ways in which sarcoidosis affects the body in FSR's Sarcoidosis and the Body brochure.
