a good and personable doctor

Does anyone live in the Hudson Valley and have a good sarc doctor who really listens to you. We would be willing to go to the city but I'm not sure who to go to. Has anyone been to David Berlin? He is associated with Cornell and NYU hospital. My son (35) has extensive scarring frim sarcoid. He feels that he will die young and barely makes it to work and back. I think he should be on a list for a lung transplant. Where can you be put on such a list?

hello stevemart, i 'm so sorry to hear about your son. this website is a wealth of information and also peace and serenity. i'm sure you will get alot more references about docs in your area. i know that cornell and NYU also have some of the best docs around. i have also attached a link of docs by state that a member of our community posted if you need it. i hope it helps. be well and my prayers and thoughts are with you your son and family! a great support system makes everything alot better. there is hope. sometimes its baby steps but it feels better to get up in the morning and fight hard and never stop fighting.

If you are willing to head to Manhattan, Alvin Tierstein at Mt. Sinai is now leading one of the largest sarcoid clinics in the world. He is also a very seasoned sarcoid doc and a good listener. His background and contact info is online at

All the best for you and your son.

I agree with quincycat. Dr. Tierstein is my doctor along with Dr. Maria Padilla who heads up Sinai's transplant unit. I'm being processed for a lung transplant myself at Sinai.

Be warned: these doctors are busy and will probably not spend loads of time. But they definitely know their stuff when it comes to sarc (20,000 sarc patients have been to Sinai's pulmonary dept). I have such a complicated health picture, Dr. Tierstein spent about 40 minutes with me at the end of his patient apptmts, making time for me. He is no nonsense and direct.

If your son needs a transplant, he will be referred to Dr. Padilla who is also first rate. Check her credentials on Sinai's website: awards galore.

My best friend is a neurologist at NYU but I went to Sinai.

Hope this is helpful.
