I agree with this article. For me, eating healthy is 80% of the battle to losing weight and staying healthy and exercise is the other 20%! Exercise really does give me energy. I have found out that no matter how much I exercise, if I don't cut my calories, I won't lose weight.

When I started exercising in September 2004, I weighed 325 pounds and I had bad heart palpitations and blinding headaches and dizzy spells along with nausea. I could only exercise twice a week for 5 minutes each time. I encourage people to start slowly, where they are, and not to compete with anyone else.

Much to my surprise, I found out that I can over-exercise. At the same time I found out that the mind might be willing to perform exercises, but the body can only follow for a while without some part of it breaking down. In my case, it was a torn meniscus, that resulted in orthoscopic knee surgery. In 2006, my cardiologist and internal medicine doctor both told me to stop exercising 3 to 4 hours, 7 days a week and just do 60 minutes and never more than 90 minutes a day. I was losing weight, but over exercising was causing inflammation in my body from excessive exercising. I was also sending my body into the "fight and flight syndrome" and it couldn't relax because it was constantly being stressed by too much exercise.

Today, January 1, 2009, I worked out at the gym for 90 minutes, which consisted of 30 minutes of core exercises and one hour of water aerobics. Afterwards, I relaxed in the Spa and the Steam Room. Exercising always makes me feel on top of the world -- like I can do anything I set my mind to do! When I don't exercise, my day is off balance. I feel tired by noon, mean-spirited, and I'm easily upset. I'll never go back to being sedentary as I was for 21 years!
