Swelling

0 Recommendations

Okay, I've had it with the swelling! It either my hands(rings can't come off) or my feet (toes hurt) or my cankles(lite rash and swelling) or my stomach( have gastroparesis so that doesn't help) or just all over. I started Plaquinel because the doctor said the swelling is from ss not bloating or retaining water but from inflamation. Can someone explain why and how inflamation does this and if there is anything I can do for it. Plaquinel takes 3 months to work---- wha??? Anyone else have this??? I feel like a whale in fat, stretchy pants.

LASIK Methotrexate Gastroparesis

Yes, I've had the swelling from the beginning and still do most days. Cannot wear my rings anymore. Ankles and feet are always swollen to some degree but are the worst if I sit up all day with my feet on the floor. My face swells also some days. All part of the SD.

Thank you so much for answering my discussion so quickly and relating with my venting. Still learning what makes a difference with the swelling either way. I was sitting at my desk working all day yesterday and now for a few hours today, I guess that could be it. And I also thought my face swelled but didn't want to say anything. Do you take any meds for it?

Wow, I did not know that the swelling and having to even sleep sitting up with the feet on the floor was part of the SD. I gave up wearing rings or shoes a long time ago. I learn something new every day. Thanks

I am on lasik right now but that's because I am doing the Gleevec trial and the Gleevec makes you retain lots of water. But I still get the face swelling even on the lasik. I don't think there is anything that can be done for it. I may be wrong but my doctor never gave me anything specific for it. Just tried all the other drugs (placquinil, methotrexate, etc.) Nothing except methotrexate did anything for me at all. The methotrexate did help my skin a little for about 6 months and then stopped working.

I have always had swelling in my legs and ankles-more my left side than my right. Several years ago, I was diagnosed with lymphadema in my legs. I went to a lymphadema clinic for several weeks, kept my legs wrapped 24/7 with bandages similiar to ace bandages for about 6 weeks, and got a leg pump. I still use the pump occasional during the summer when the humidity is up and I can barely bend my ankles. My rheumy keeps trying to give me lasik for the swelling and my PCP tells me its not water retention but lymph fluid! The swelling started for me after I started taking a drug which I can't remember the name of right now (will post when I remember). I usually wear compression stockings and have learned to live with it.
