itchy skin

1 Recommendation

Hi there,

I am kinda new here and haven't really introduced myself yet but I really need some help!!

I am a female, 39, been dx with MCTD in 2005. With very strong SD symptoms, especially my skin.

Recently I have had to stop my immunsuppresents due to an infection and surgery. I have been off them for about 6 weeks.

Well, lately, in the last week or so, my skin is terribly itchy and I have scratched so much that I now have open sores on my back and arms. My husband is very worried about me getting an infection.

My question to you guys is: What can I use to stop the itchies? I am desperate!!! It itches so bad because I have been off my meds that I am just ruining my skin!!!

Does anyone have any idea what I can do to get the itchyness to stop long enough for the meds to kick back in?

Thank you for all your help!! I really appreciate any help I can get.

Shel

Hi ....Try TAKING some Benadryl caplets and using the Benadryl spray. Hope it helps your itchy places.

Try hydrocortisone cream and benadryl or claritan. That helps alot.

Dear Shel,

I have CREST and I have had bad itching episodes over the last 10 years. I had no idea what was going on . It seemed to get worse in the evening hours. I felt like there were bugs crawling all over me . At first I thought maybe my cat had fleas but he did not. I took Benadryl and this helped temporarily. I also put calamine lotion on. This too was only a temp. solution. Over the years of trying different things I have found that taking fewer short warm(not Hot) showers helps. I use oatmeal soaps and lotions. I take vitamin D, B12, B6, magnesium. eat sardines and omega 3 fats. I feel like these have helped my itchiness and have also helped with my Raynauds, muscle pains, and cramps, and chills. I dont take any prescription medicines at this time, although I have been on several over the years. I am hypersensitive to many medications. At the present I am stable with no known lung or heart problems. You might try these things after talking to your Dr. to see if you can take these with your current medications and diagnosis. If these thing dont help, then you might want to be allergy tested. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for the reply's, I am just off my rocker with itchies. I bought some bactine lotion, it says it is a germ fighter plus a skin numbing creme, so hopefully it will help.

Any other ideas would sure be appreciated!!!

Try using Cetaphil lotion (you can find it at most pharmacies -non prescription lotion) and apply it after your shower. There is also a compound prescription cream Triaminaclone with camphor and menthol that helps with the itching but it is very expensive and my insurance would not cover it. I also use Benadryl on extreme days.

dejavu2,

Actually I called my PCP and he perscribed that very lotion, but unfortuantely it did not work. I bought some bactine, which is a numbing liquid and it works pretty well, plus keeping the area VERY hydrated helps too. but thanks for the advice!
