H1N1 Vaccine

0 Recommendations

Has anybody found out or do they know if someone with Scleroderma should get the H1N1 vaccine as I know my daughter is not to ever get the regular flu shot but she is wondering if she can get the H1N1.She is going to see her specialist next week but I thought I would just ask.

I was diagnosed with scleroderma in June 09, so I am new to all of this, but I
did have a HINI flu shot about 2 weeks ago. My rheumy advised it.

Thanks for the reply so fast...is your roomy a physician or in medicine? Have you spoke with your doctor about it since you did get it?...if I don't reply right away I will I just have to go out to my work as a School Crossing Guard but won't be long :)

When I received my flu shot I was having a check up at my Dr's. office that diagnosed me in Charleston SC @ the Medical University. That was the first flu shot I had ever had in my life, but she said I needed it so I said ok. I had no problems from the injection, but who knows it might come back to " bite me" later....have a great day....I am from Camden SC>

I was told that yes, we should get the vaccine for the H1N1, but not the nasal form only the injection if you are on medications for auto immune which I'm sure all of us are...because the nasal vaccine is a live virus and the injection is a dead one.

Hi Debsky,

My son's pediatric rheumatologist advised us that he should get both the seasonal flu shot and the H1N1. She recommended getting the injection rather that nasal spray. We have already gotten the seasonal flu shot. No problems at all. We're still waiting for the H1N1 to be available in the Dallas area.

Hope this helps!

I have SSC and got both the regular and H1N1 shots not mist. My rheumy recommended both and I got them. I am fine.

My internist said I should get one.

I have always been advised by all my Docs to get the shots that are a dead virus. Have never had any problems.

Same advice here~~My Rheumatologist advised that I get both vaccines, but not the live flu mist vaccine. I've had the seasonal shot and am awaiting more supply of the H1N1 so I can have that as well.

Both my rheumatologist and pulmonologist said that I needed to get it.

Unfortunately, my Dr.s don't even have the vaccine yet! So, I'm waiting. I had the regular flu shot - I get that every year.

My rheumotologist said get both, so I have had both flu shots already- No ill effects at all.

I'm in medical sales and uses to be a sales rep for 2 different companies that make the flu vaccine. Basically the H1N1 strain of the flu is still the flu. So the H1N1 vaccine is simply a version of the seasonal flu vaccine, which itself can differ from year to year. So, if you get the flu vaccine with no trouble, you can get the H1N1 vaccine.

Yes, I had the regular flu shot. My doc just got the H1N1 shot in for both me and my husband. I should b getting the shot by the end of week. I have 2 go 2 Saratoga and see my reumy so my reg. doc is going 2 make special arrangements 4 us 2 get it.

I would suggest getting both shots and b safe... I want 2 go shopping....

My daughter has Localized Scleroderma Morphea, 2 years ago she received the seasonal flu shot. She is very active in sports, that evening at practice she started sweating excessively and had a strange body odor. This lasted for 3 months. Several days after the shot, she started getting additional out breaks of the Morphea.

Dr. said to get both. But the dead vaccine.

Yes both my regular doc and my rheummie doc told me to get both. I just got the H1N1 today. The shot.
