Disability Hearing Next Week/Dizziness

0 Recommendations

Hello all:
I just want to thank whoever started this website. It has been such a help to me. I feel connected to everyone here. I have scleroderma/MTCD/Raynauds/Barrets Esphogus/Etc. and I am up for a disability hearing next week and wondered if anyone could help me out as to what they will ask and what I need to know before going in to this. I am in a wheelchair when I am out of the house. Here at home I have a cane to use. Very unstable! I have had pneumonia 6 times in the last year (from food asperating into my lungs) and just know finishing a bout with it. I have been REALLY dizzy for the past 4 days. It almost makes me sick. Is this another symptom of the disease or could it just be anxiety about this trial. PLEASE, PLEASE - any imput will help. God Bless!!
Shelly

Dear MRS Bubbles,
Firstly I hope your disability hearing goes well next week. I too have a hearing in two weeks. I am feeling a little anxious about this. Im trying to think positive, but have been denied twice . So this anticipation is making me uneasy. I am not well enough to even work part time at this time. I tried last year but held on for only a week before I had to quit due to fatigue and SOB. I too have been dizzy in the last three weeks. It seemed to start after my yearly flu vaccine. I was feeling more intense pain too. I dont know if this was a side effect. Have you had the fluvaccine this year? Also I went to the Dr. on Monday and he thought it could be anemia causing the dizziness and did blood work. Dizziness can be caused by fluctuations in blood pressure, inner ear, allergys, even lung and breathing problems just to name a few. Please check with your Dr. to rule out these things. Mine seems to come and go and I am getting a little worried myself. I have also been having some nasal congestion(worse with the rain and the damp weather weve had). I hope that we both can get to the root of our dizziness soon. also I am sorry that you have been ill with pneumonia. I hope you improve with every day. Please try to rest if you can and again I wish you success at your disability hearing.

Dear Mrs Bubbles,
I forget to ask you if you have a disability attorney? I was denied first and then got an attorney. SHe has been helping me. If you dont, then I think it will be good for you to have support and witnesses that know about your inability to work. to go with you to the hearing. Have you sent them your medical records.?If not make sure you either send the disability office all of your current medical records or if you have any additional records to take with you at the hearing. This is what my attorney has advised me. My attorney also mentioned that sometimes you may be asked questions about what you do during the day. We need to let them know that we are unable to do most things without assistance and that we have to rest often. They may even think that if we log into the internet that we are well enough to work. We probably should tell them that it is very tiring to do this. All of us with this disease know how debilitating it is. Some people may look at us and think we are OK to work . But the facts are some days we may be too ill to get out of bed, and on our good days sometimes we are able to do brief chores or go on the computer to check this support group or talk to friends. I hope we will have someone at our hearing who is wise to this illness and help us to get the coverage we so desperately need to pay for our living expenses and our Drs. and pharmacy bills, Again I wish you the best .

Good advice. Please get a Disability Attorney. It took my sister (MS) 5 years and numerous hearings but, once she got an attorney things went smoothly. Make sure they don't get paid unless you're successful. I never went through the disability mess but, have had several friends and no one got it the first time. If you don't please don't be discouraged. We shouldn't have to fight for our rights but, unfortunately we do. Attorneys to cost money but, from what I've seen it's a worthwhile investment.
Good luck to both of you.

Go to FIND IT and type in DISABILITY PAYMENT. Deanagraham and I both wrote what we hope will help you with getting your Social Security Disability. I realize you have probably done most of eveything on our list, but perhaps something there will help you.

Neither one of us had an attorney. Good luck!

You should also bring up to your attorneys or during your hearing that scleroderma as of November, 2008, is on the list of diseases on the compassionate allowance. In my case it fast-tracked my application and I was approved in a month. Scleroderma is considered a disease that should be approved according to the compassionate allowance due to what the disease does and how it affects a person. So as long as your medical records are very definitive to what your symptoms, condition, problems, restrictions, etc. you should be in good shape.

I wish you good luck and you hopefully will be approved!!

Warm hugs,
Peggy

Thanks to everyone. I am feeling a little more at ease about the hearing. I have had someone copy all of my medical exams and tests that I have had since they last asked for information, which was a year ago. How long in advance do you have to get an attorney for your hearing and is it expensive? I called our social security office to ask a few questions yesterday and the lady was so rude that I didn't get to even ask about attornys. Please let me know any info ASAP, as my hearing is next week. THANKS!!!

I can't help you regarding an attorney as I did not have one. But, Peggy is right, Scleroderma automatically qualifies you for SS disability. Having said that, then, you have to provide all of the supporting medical evidence, including proof from your doctors that you have it and cannot work. Good luck!

I was to my family doctor yesterday for dizziness. I am dehyrated and they are checking me for c-diff (sp?). I talked to him about this hearing and he is writing me a letter. He is so upset with the SS system. He can't believe that they would even call me in. He said that I shouldn't even be out in public right now. Oh well, I will show up and prove to them. I don't have anything to hide. Thanks everyone!

I was diagnosed with Vestiular Neuritis a few yrs ago. Until now I never put it together with my Scler. diagnoses. Has anyone experienced this? I was told I have no nerve connection in my right year.

hi msbubbles i am currently on disability i was diagnosed when i was 33 i am now 42 i applied for disability feb 08 and was approved in april 08 i am so shocked to see people who suffer from sd need to have a attourney etc to get approved..all i did was call talked to a case worker she asked me all questions over phone sent me the paper work to sign then they sent me to their doctors... since i suffer from lung fibrosis the lung doc reported to them how serious my lungs were so i didnt have to go to their arthritus doc ..i received my 1st check in july 08...jus like some one else mentioned we should not have to go thru any denials suffering from this disease..i hope all goes well with u..God bless..PS: fyi if any one get hold to some one rude when calling for disablilty hang up call back and talk to some one else..there will be some one there that will help you. i to got hold to a rude disability rep.

Dear Mrs. Bubbles,

Its good to hear that you went to your Dr. about your dizziness. Dehydration can make you feel bad. Your Drs. letter and your current medical records should help you for the hearing. You can mail them to the disability office before the hearing so they can review them Their address should be on your paperwork. You can also take them with you. Thats what I plan to do with my hearing. Its coming up in 2 weeks. I got a lawyer after my second denial. For you its probably not necessary to get a lawyer now. My lawyer has not billed me yet. If and when Im approved she will take a small cut from my payment. I felt like it was worth it to me because getting all the paperwork was so tiring for me in the beginning. I wish you the best at your hearing and hope you bloodwork is good.

I am very new to this group but not new to the symptoms you have.

I have been told that my hearing loss and dizziness is due to my jaw movement. My dentist said that the farther off my bite is the worse my hearing will be.

Right now I hear only noise from my right ear and I have a lot of trouble with the phone on my left so that is all I can say about my own experiences.

hello everyone... my husband has applied for disability but was denied cause he is still working. this is sooo annoying due to the fact that he HAS to work so we dont lose everything tht we own. it is the most annoying thing in the world to have to fight for the money that u have earned by working for sooo many years. he not only has systemic scleroderma but he has ILD, raynauds, psoriosis of the intire body, idiopathic contetive dissue disease, and i am sure i have left out some things that he has.. but it just frustraites me that he has to stop working or go to where he doesnt make any more than 980.00 gross income. and if he quits, we no longer have medical ins.... i am sorry if i sound like i am angry but i guess i am... it doesnt help that he gives up on things sooo easy, and he questions why he is alive every single day....does anyone else have this frustration?

todssmylove i feel your pain.My roomate paid all of our bills for 5 mo till i got aproved for disability without any complaint including my medicine (thats the man on my profile picture) and even then i wanted to force myself to go back to work but he wouldn't let me as much as my illines did.I know its unfair and it doesnt make sense but sadly its one of the requirements till he stops working in "their"eyes he is not disebled.God Bless and Good luck i hope you find some solution.
