Celiac disease Probiotics Scleroderma Anemia

Hi;
Yes I had to do drastic changes.First of all I had no idea that I had Celiac disease that had caused my SD.I soon found out that 1 person in 90 has it and most don't even know it.That is one of the main reasons that there is now such a high rate of cancer,diabetis and immune diseases.This causes leaky gut and stops the production of vit.B that is secreted by the supposedly upright villi that line the gut.Celiac knocks them flat.Gut damage will cause anemia and many other problems because we cannot absorb nutrients from food.This then causes many food sensitivities.I will never be able to eat any foods that have gluten in them such as soy sauce,ketchup,french fries(coated in gluten to fry up nicely) etc.etc.I became sensitive to dairy,beef,all nightshades,all citrus,anything sweet and many other foods.Luckily after stopping gluten for slightly over a year the gut healed and I was able to slowly reintroduce those foods in small quantities for a couple of years and now I can have anything except gluten

Here's a little shift for the way you look at this: You body reacts in very, very uncomfortable ways to some foods that you eat. The celiac is one symptom of that, and the only way to change it is to eliminate the gluten, because the gluten is the irritant in your system. The scleroderma which has a symptom of inflammation or swelling is made worse when you eat certain foods, like foods from the nightshade family: potatoes, tomatoes, and eggplant. This summer my hands ballooned when I ate potato or tomato.
Now, you could keep eating them, but you they would make you feel terrible, which you do right now.

It is not the AP that is requiring you to change your diet, which is kind of a value-loaded word, but it is your body which is being made sicker by some foods. You need to change what you eat in order to feel better, and stay better. Don't think of it as a diet, but as removing something that is poisoning your system and making you very, very uncomfortable.

Christine's experience is a lot like mine. I do not have celiac, but I have had a very hard time with nightshade foods -- and fresh tomatoes are one of my favorite foods! My garden is loaded with fresh basil and tomatoes, and I mark the beginning of summer with a big plate of pasta and the bounty of my garden. Not this year -- When I stopped eating nightshade, the swelling in my hands reduced dramatically. I started AP in July, and I have been able to eat small amounts of tomato once or twice a week without a problem, but a big plate of wonderful pasta with tomato and basil -- not so much.

I have to advoid gluten, which I never cheat on, night shades (I gave up years ago) which I rarely slip up on, sweets really drain my energy but on ocassion I will have a gluten free cookie and a glass of milk which isn't good because I also advoid dairy except for yogurt. Sounds difficult I know but the glutten I think is probably the most important to eliminate. Take it in stages. The hardest part about ap for me is not eating 2 hrs before and 2 hrs after the antibiotic. And I have to fit in meds that won't block it's absorption (like TUMS). Make sure you take probiotics 2 hrs. after. I started the full dose on the 19th and I feel like a brand new person. I wish everyone would at least try it. It is worth it to me to make the diet changes to feel this much better. And I think taking care of our bodies is as important as the ap. Lynn

Hi Chosen;
It is suggested that you not eat 2 hours before or after mino but........ I had a funny tummy so I took mine with a snack that did not have calcium in it.Toast and a scrambled eggg,some fruit and it worked just as well.You lose only 15% of it's efficacy and I felt it well worth it to just be able to feel well and keep my sanity at the same time

Great news! I took it to mean there was a 4 hr. window of not eating, and that's a little challenging for me, especially since I can only eat in small amounts. Lynn

THANKS FOR ALL RESPONSES, I GUESS I WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT BY STEPS, IAM ANXIOUS TO GET STARTED ON THE AP LOL

keep everyone informed of your progress on ap. please.
