Julie and Julia

I watched the movie yesterday. What I would like to comment about is the value of homecooking--not necessarily Julia's butter laden dishes-but healthy homecooking. When I was younger, I was caught up in the women's movement and career oriented and it was the beginning of women being too busy to cook for their families and the beginning of fast food taking over the dinner table. I'm not sure that it is step forward for health, that the housewifely duty of cooking was put down infavor of developing a career. I know there is no easy answer to this situation. A lot of women must work and it is beginning to be expected even if you don't have to, but I think that the women who do stay at home and cook and those who try to work outside and somehow manage to juggle cooking in there are to be commended for doing a valuable service to their familes. The food industry is only too eager to take over the job and they certainly aren't doing a good job of it with obesity on the rise the way it is.
