symptomatic tarlov cyst surgery

0 Recommendations

Heard again from my neurosurgeon today. He reviewed my past MRI's with my current ones and concluded surgery sounds like the best option. My symptoms fit with S1 compression where my large tarlov cyst is. He stated he cannot guarantee that my symptoms will improve as there may be permanent nerve damage. He did say that it is encouraging that I do have periods of time with decreased pain.

Now he stated I can call his office to schedule the procedure. Just wondering from anyone who has had surgery for a tarlov cyst removal on what to expect in the recovery period? My doctor said there will be muscle pain from the incision. He said to expect to be in the hospital for a few days laying flat. One of the biggest worries is sealing off the cyst and preventing cerebrospinal fluid leaks. He said that the recovery time should be somewhere between 2-6 weeks. Is there anything else I should be worried about? ANY input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
