Does having TRAPS out you in the *at risk* category for complications of N1H1?
I suggest that you address this question to the Centers for Disease Control:
http://www.cdc.gov/contact/index3.htm
Yes. If you take steroids and/or immunosuppressant drugs, you are at high risk. Also, complications from the flu usually result in respiratory conditions and patients with TRAPS are more prone to developing respiratory conditions and also have more difficulty fighting them.
You can get the seasonal flu shot and the H1N1 flu shot when it becomes available.

Thanks... I have talked to my doctor and we are going to use Tamiflu if she becomes sick and swabs +
I do not think the Vaccine is safe, so I have to do preventive measures and then be more aggressive if she does get sick.
Hi,
My daughter's rheumatologist told me that Madeleline HAS to get the new flu shot. It is imperative. I understand your concerns on the vaccine, I to wonder because it is new, however, several years ago when my mother was my age, they also gave out this vaccine due to an outbreak, so it is not the first time that they have prepared this shot. Hope this helps.

I have traps and I have had this discussion very recently with my GP - MOHLTC has advised all physicians that all patients with a chronic illness (TRAPS) must first have the HINI vaccine and then 6 weeks later, have the normal flu vaccine. It's so important to have these shots.
Take care,
Bonnie
Bonnie, I thank you for your post. I have talked to my doctor about this. The vaccine is UNTESTED. i am not willing for my child to be a guinea pig. In Canada the H1N1 vaccine is not even available yet do to testing concerns-so I could not even get it if I wanted it.
I have not had a flu vaccine and have not had the flu in at least 10 years. I think that there are many things we can do to boost of immunity with out vaccines. I will not criticize a person informed choice to vaccinate. I am not comfortable with the ingredients in the vaccine.
At this time it is my decision not to vaccinate for the flu. I have vaccinated for some things after careful review but this is not one that i feel comfortable doing.
The vaccine that was made in 1976 lead to cases on GBS which is a neurological conditions that has no cure only treatment. Although the H1N1 virus from today and 1976 are not closely related it still concerns me that side effects like GBS may occur. Not every person that was vaccinated developed GBS but many did. Every person is 'wired' differently so I would need more research done before I expose myself or my child to this vaccine. Thats my opinion but each person is entitled to their own, just make sure to do some research before making a final decision.
Thanks. you know, I was at Maddy's playgroup today and we were discussing the H1N1. The topic was GBS and to be honest, this was new to me. I'd hope that with the permanent side effects from that vaccine that this one would have been tested better. The other topic today was that it was rumored the H1N1 is a live vaccine, which TRAPS patients on Enbrel are not to receive any way. Not sure about this. I too will do some research. I am glad that you brought up this topic. If you find out any more information please let us know. Til' then I will also be doing some research :)
The nasal mist for N1H1 is live. The shot is not.
Do you know if they are coming out with the shot too, or just the mist??
My son received the H1N1 vaccine (not live) and yet almost immediately experienced a TRAPS attack. I believe it may have been the other ingredients in the vaccine that triggered the attack. He is now back on the prednizone. It's a hard call as to what is the better route to take with this. He was double over with belly pain and could not stand up straight due to back pain and knee pain.
my daughter is having her H1N1 ON15TH DEC and i thought the flu jab to. is it right to have them six weeks apart ? she is on prednisolone and colchicine at the moment as she has fever attacks every two weeks i am concerned that it may bring on another attack. was he taking pred before?
Hi, my 3,5 year old son has MVA, another periodic fever disease.
He is on kineret daily. Before he started the kineret treatment he was sick all time, he had "a flu" about twice a month that last about a week, and really bad joint-/ liver-/splean-/stomac problems.
He took the H1N1 about three weeks ago, I was prepared for an feverattac. But he had only two days of fever, and he was sore where they put it. His kineret treatment was stoped the day he took the vaccine, and the day after. He is going to take the second dose next week. Because he is so young, they take it over two doses. At least 3 weeks apart. He is also going to take the ordenary flu shot, He had to wait for only 1 week between the H1N1 and the other one, but I thougth I should wait til he is done with the H1N1.
I was very sceptical to let him go throug the H1N1 vaccsine, because he has had a very bad reaction on every vaccine he has been taken. But here in Norway are a lot of people dead because of the "pigflu" so I thought it was the best.
Then time will show, if I did the right ting or not.
hi my daughter has been ill with a fever syndrome from birth she is now three but we are not very sure what one. a few genetic test have come back neg but ive heard you can still have these syndromes just on a clinical diagnosis. do you know if that is the case and also what is MVA as that is one i have never heard of and i have done lots of studying on this subject. i would be grateful for any advice or info . thanks
