Severe Class 2 Malocullsion

0 Recommendations

Hello, my name is Evelyn Wildes. I was born with a Severe Class 2 Malocclusion. I suffer chronic pain, muscle spasms, migraines, clicking in both jaw joints, severe TMJ, and limited opening of the mouth. I am 27, married with three kids. My husband is the only worker in the household due to my condition. The insurance through his work will not cover the surgery I need. My quality of life is effected in so many ways. I am desperate for relief to live life more productively as a wife and mother.

What have you tried? There may be dental schools or clinics that will do the surgery on a sliding fee schedule. Perhaps there are things you could do to make money to save up to have the surgery. Try to think outside the box.

A nurologist may be able to get you on a combination of drugs to prevent migraines. One of the drugs to prevent migraines also helps with chronic pain.

Deep breathing is an easy to learn to help with relaxation and pain. Yoga, meditation, exercise, ect. can help with chronic pain. Heat and ice and jaw massage can help with the TMJ.

I have migraines, TMJ, arthritis in my jaw, and my jaw has been broken twice. I'm much older than you look in your pictures. Over the years I have learned cope.

My daughter also has TMJ. We discovered it during a routine dental exam when whe was about 15. Orthodontia seemed to aggravate it. She had an MRI on her jaws and it turns out she has no discs whatsoever in the jaw joints, just scar tissue. Apparently, when she was much younger, the discs were knocked out when she fell. She wanted to have the jaw surgery as well. I told her to go online and visit a support group of people with TMJ who have had the surgery. She totally changed her mind on having the surgery. Many people who had the surgery were in worse pain than before!

What my daughter does have is a full mouth guard / retainer which she wears at night. While she sleeps, the mouth guard keeps her teeth and jaws aligned and prevents any mouth tension in case she grinds her teeth in her sleep. If you grind your teeth during your sleep, that would definitely aggravate the TMJ.

Good luck, Evelyn.
