Ramsey Hunt Syndrom

0 Recommendations

The conditions for normal Ramsey Hunt do not apply in my case. After a bout with pneumonia I was left with this condition. I visited nine (9) physicians before anyone could tell me what it was. The main issues are: Severe Vertigo, ringing and slight deafness in the ear, some speech isues, loss of short term memory, vision problems and exhaustion.

There used to be a procedure that was performed but is now no longer done. The problem with this condition is that if affects the nerves on the side of the head and renders them 80 to 90 percent non functioning. What this creates is similar to information processed by a computer where the output is determined by the quality of the signal received. Have you heard of the saying garbage in garbage out? With one nerve nearly dead it is imposible to process information in the brain when the input is garbled. Does this make sense? It is hard to describe the various symptoms it creates.

I would be interested in hearing from someone with the same conditions and what they were able to do about it. Also, if there are any physicians that work with this type of thing.

I have the exact same thing - got sick August 17th and haven't been well since. Started with a sinus infection that developed into pneumonia, to bell's palsy, to ramsey' hunt.... vertigo was HORRIBLE.... it was like being drunk all the time. Couldn't think, I was faking it through work for about 2 weeks. Horrible. Stumbling, stammering.... if I was lying down, I was OK. Sitting was passable. Standing was a joke. Walking was embarrassing. Running was out of the question. Now, almost 2 months later, I can barely hear out of my left ear, and I have a high pitched whine 24/7 in that ear. If I hold a phone up to that ear, it sounds like the person is in a tunnel and the speaker is damaged; very garbled and tinny and distorted and distant. But, the vertigo is gone, and I have most of my mental clarity back, so I'll trade that for this annoying ear racket and diminshed hearing. I still get dizzy at night and in the dark, I stumble like I'm drunk. Exhaustion - OMG - I yawn all day, and the minute I get home I collapse into a chair or couch and don't budge until bedtime. An 8 hour work day completely drains me. Doctors - ENT, MD, neurologist... they all say the same thing - you're healthy as a horse. There's nothing they can do. But, I can put one foot in front of the either and can work, which is a lot more than a lot of people, so I try not to complain too much. So, I have the same conditions as you - but from what I've been told, there's absolutely nothing we can do.
