I am not a Dr.. I have wide interest and read. I have read 3 books on natural organics that have healing properties. They are written by John Heinerman:
Encycopedia of Healing Herbs and Sspices, New Ency
copedia of Fruits and Vegtables, and one on healing juices. What is good about these books is they cost
about $20, and the table of contents list symptoms or
desease then gives the herb, spice, fruit, vegtable
with their page no.. Example: rash nine herbs are
given one of them is thyme 445 (pg#). Ihave read thee section Thyme canbe made as a tea drink it use it
on the surface and/or vaporizer, Listerine has the active ingredient thymol, DO NOT DRINK LISTERINE
I WOULD NOT PUT IT NEAR EYES

I do not know what I do not know. What I do know is
that the books I suggested to read were interesting
informative and supprising. How about using honey
to heal a wound, bacteria can't grow in it and it provides food for the skin. A raw potato Helps remove
heavy metals from the body. Celery calms frayed nerves. Yes there are other plants that I would not
use without very close supervision, dangerous to
the point of death. I also know there are warnings in the books and I am assuming readers on this site are
intellegent. These books are a starting point of a
body of knowledge that may be very helpful.

A lot of "traditional" meds are now being used by "western" doctors now. Of course, the whole pharmacology business started with noting the positive effects of certain herbs.

Formal training programs in Intergrative Medicine (Completementary in UK) and many large health systems have departments dedicated to this approach. Probably the best known is in Tucson with Andrew Weill.

One caveat, tell your doctor if you are considering adding any medication, herbal or not as there are surprising interactions between them.
