"Odd" source for supplies

0 Recommendations

Hello, everyone. I have primary lymphedema (LE) in both of my legs. This is also referred to as Milroy's disease as the kind of LE that I have is congential. I have to use a "ton" of bandages and compression stockings as ongoing treatment of this condition. Of course, the type of bandages that I need are not the regular ACE type but called short stretch bandages and my insurance does not cover these items. I have found that ebay is an excellent place to start your search for these supplies. I recently purchased bandages for $2.50 a roll that would normally cost me upwards of $8-10 a roll anywhere else. But if you go to ebay, please remember to read every word and ask questions if you are unsure that the product is exactly what you need. I will not buy from anyone that does not answer my questions that I send to them. You may need to try several variations of the words to find what you want. Maybe try a general search instead of just asking for a specific brand name. Just keep trying different combinations until you find what you want. So if your insurance does not cover your bandages or compression stockings, check into some of the stores at ebay and see if they carry what you need. JUST BE VERY CAREFUL AND ASK ALL THE QUESTIONS THAT YOU NEED TO BEFORE YOU PURCHASE ANY ITEM, non medical included!!!

Opps!!! I left out another source that I frequently use. It is www.needymeds.com There you can find many pharmaceutical companies that offer patient assistant programs with many of their medicines. Most offer these to you free of charge. Just follow the instructions on the home page to find the meds you need. Also, they have a page that tells you of many different organizations that offer assistance to "disease" specific issues. These programs have been very helpful to me. They have a list that you can use that shows local and nationwide programs. I have found it easier to start with the nationwide services first. There are many programs out there to assist you. Also, another prescription program can be found at www.rxoutreach.com This organization offers many generic meds in 3 month supplies for, I believe, somewhere between $20-30 for the entire 3 month supply. This is a big blessing for all the meds I have to take that aren't cover by my insurance. I hope these ideas have been a help to you...Take care....Mommabirdi

I hope you will be able to take advantage of Walmart's new initiative. They have a number of commonly used drugs available at $4 for a month's prescription. I don't believe this is available in all states, but, hopefully, it will be soon.

I have primary lymphedema of the left leg. My leg became over 200 pounds by itself. I have a lymph-a-press pump. Insurance and I purchased it. You have to use it 6-8 hours per day so it was hard for me to do as I worked. The doctors allowed me to use it at nights but sleeping good was an issue. I finally lost the use of my leg and developed pain in 1998. I found a doctor in Lexington, KY (Dr. Sachatello) who performed what is called a "Charles procedure". My left leg has no connective tissue now just muscle and bone. I still have to wear compression garments. I use Ace wraps also. When I had my surgery, My Doctor use Vet wrap (you get it from vets) It was around $2.50 per roll. Works better than the wrap for humans. My condition started when I was 16 and I was 41 when I had my surgery.
