Long-distance medical air transportation

0 Recommendations

I have had a lot of experience helping patients and patient families get access to charitable medical air transportation for going back and forth to distant specialized sites for evaluation, diagnosis or treatment. Would be happy to share with any who needs same. (This is not a commercial service.)

Thanks

Do you or a family member need transportation to medical treatment? ? Are you a medical or social work professional and know someone who needs transportation to medical treatment?

Depending on patient medical condition, mobility (ie, can they get in and out of a small plane on their own), the distance of the trip and how soon they need to go - a careful "transportation means analysis" must be done and the patient or patient family needs to be referred to the appropriate charity for assistance. There are three different means of medical air transportation. First one for ambulatory outpatients for distances out to 1,000 miles is light aircraft flown by the volunteer pilot/owner of the aircraft. The second means is through a donated patient airline ticket for trips over 1,000 milesa - and the third, should a stretcher and medical monitoring or enroute care be required is air ambulance. The National Patient Travel Center on 1-800-296-1217 will help sort out the particulars and will refer the caller to the correct charity where the correct service can be obtained. The National Patient Travel Center functions in support of Angel Flight America - the national charity that handles 90% of charitable medical air transportation in the United States. The National Patient Travel Center is, itself, a non-profit charity.

this is my research project:;:

I am on a power search to help our (a community of over 500) friend Killagrrrl (Donna) who "went down" on New Years Even, in SanFRan (she is from NYC) - and...yeah - moya moya/coma

She is beautiful and strong and full of do it no matter what energy strength and spirit - not to mention spit, and fight, and all of us pulling for her.

She has been "out" since New Years Eve.

She has visitors "out there" and cards letters and support from all over....

NOW...we need to find out how WE can help her family get there...

BUT has anyone had any experience with fundraising for this purpose OR getting resources for family members AS non-family memebers (ie: we are trying to take some of the stress/strain/responsibility off of them).

Choked up all day long....

any help would be soooooooooooo appreciated!

this is an important piece of information I'm so happy you shared it. I came across a hint of this service the other night while trying to research some other issues. more specifically, do you know how they work? Do you make "reservations"? My daughter is able to walk, etc., but depending on a lot of factors, will need several trips back and forth. I have been struggling as a single parent trying to figure out airfare costs, etc. We are not looking for a 'hand out' just a hand up and are so willing to "pay it forward". Thank you to everyone who has been so kind to give us information regarding ectodermal dysplasia, etc. Again, thank you.
