Can any one give me ideas on how to pull off a successful fundraiser. I have to make a trip to Kansas City for neurosurgery in May. My financial situation has hit rock bottom and I would just like some advice.

Dear Ymmatoj,
I live in KC, and today there's about 5 inches of snow outside my door, welcome to spring!
I haven't had to do fundraising on a personal level, only for business, so these are my suggestions.
Contact local businesses and ask if they do fundraising events/things. Restraunts managers maybe willing to donate some meals, maid services may donate some cleanings, auto shops some free oild changes, etc. Explain your situation and see if people will donate things for you to compile into a book of items to auction off or sell to locals. This can drive them more business and help others as well. Sometimes they may even put up a collection jar. Make up a short story to explain why you need to raise money and print on a bright flier. If they can't donate, would they accept donations for you from their patrons? If you have a local Mary Kay consultant/Tupperware/Miche Bags rep, you might talk to her about hosting a party and part of the proceeds going towards your fundraiser.
You might also ask your local schools for ideas they use for fundraising, your church (if you don't have a church you attend, ask a close friend or family member about their church), even contact your local news channels and paper. Explain your story and situation and ask.
If you have some friends that are good in business to business sales, ask them how to get your foot in the door or maybe go with you to help. This is of course if you don't know how or are shy.
Just tell everyone you know, and more that you don't your situation and ask if they have any ideas. Make sure all your friends and family are putting the word out as well. Maybe even have a little meeting with close f/f and brainstorm what each can do to help. Figure out how much you need, and break it down into small amounts. See if each person with a good idea can commit to executing that idea and bring back an amount.
Hope this helps, and good luck.
Dear Sugarbear74
Sorry for the delay in thanking you. I have been down for several days with pain. Thanks so much for your ideas. This sure helps out. I will have you know I am scheduled to do an interview with my local newspaper Tues April 7 to get my story out there. This has probably been the hardest thing I ever gone through, and I have been through hell and back with other things in my life. My health is the most important thing to me now. This disease has opened up my eyes that is for sure.
