information on Isaac's Syndrome

2 Recommendations

Hi everyone,

I am a student in Massage therapy school and we had an assignment for class. It was to find a muscle disease and write about it and determine what manipulations to use on this person. First of all I do want to say that I do not have Isaac's Syndrome. I was wandering if anyone would be interested in sharing this disease with me and I am also wandering if anyone has ever gone to a massage therapist in order to help with the treatment.

Hi Theresa,
I have Isaac's and actually find that massage is one of the best tools in treating my condition. I would be happy to give you as much detail as you'd like. I currently see (and now work for) an osteopathic pain specialist. she began treating me with both proper medications and with deep tissue massage (we have on staff therapists for all our patients). Since my muscles are always extremely tight massage helps greatly. With this disorder I have found that everything makes my muscles tighten, cramp, spasm, and generally hurt. The massages do what I cannot, they force the muscles to relax. I get at least one half hour per week and up to two one hour massages per week. we focus on whichever muscles are worst at the time. I find that the massage reduces the pain in my muscles. I also have gained quite a bit more mobility. I don't know about other people's symptoms, but for me just about any stretch can cause a sudden spasm. Simple actions such as writing can cause my hands and forearms to tighten up painfully (this is true for all muscles, but that's a good example). I cannot speak highly enough of massage as part of my treatment. I am able to work almost full time again, after thinking I would go on disability, and massage is part of that change. I find that when I go a few weeks without it it my condition gets much worse. If you'd like to know more, I'm happy to share my experience. Best of luck on your research.
