I don't get it. Before I stopped working, I needed to take one 10 to 15 minute break each day to lie down, close my eyes, and rest. When I was in college, before I became so ill, I tried to take a 10 to 15 minute break each day in a quiet place to meditate. It refreshed my mind and made me a lot more creative, productive and I learned better.
While I was working, I didn't dare tell anyone that I was lying down and resting once every day. When I made the mistake of telling a few people, I was widely considered a "slacker" and was suddenly regarded as an "unproductive" worker who slept on the job, in spite of stellar reviews at work previously.
I really don't understand the attitude. People take "smoke" breaks frequently throughout the day and this is socially acceptable. Most of the smokers spent a lot more time outside in the designated smoking areas of the companies I worked for than the time that I spent lying down and resting each day.
Why is it socially acceptable to take a break from your work and smoke several cigarettes, but not acceptable to lie down for a few minutes? Do we really, as a people, value our health so little that we regard a "smoke" break as not only acceptable, but necessary, while regarding a meditation break or a break to lie down for a few minutes as a serious breach of work ethic!?!
I don't get it. I really just don't get it.
