My daughter just got a diagnosis today, but it all started a week ago, on saturday she had pain in her ancle, then sunday the rash came up and her ancle was swollen but her knee hurt, now today i get her from school to go to the doctor and there is pain and swelling in her knee. They are making her an appt to see a rhuematologist at the beginning of next week. She stays tired and her leg hurts. the only symptoms she has this far is rash, and arthritus. all her blood work is good and her kidneys are fine right now. I just want to know what to expect???

I hate sending her to school because the swelling and pain come and go, in the morning she could be fine no pain or swelling and running but by the time I pick her up her knee, ancle can be swollen, hurting and shes limping when she comes out to me, she doesn't complain, just pushes through it, what can I do? What do they do for kids with hsp so that they can go to school even with the artheritis flare ups? Do they give crutches or something to help them get around?

Hi Kelsi

I'm sorry about the diagnosis. The good news is that the majority of cases resolve on their own in about 6 weeks. For more info and some stories of others with HSP, check out www.hspsupport.org.

I'm sorry to hear about your daughter. This is the time of year when HSP tends to appear, the good news is like Beth said, as a child it should only last between 6 to 12 weeks. With children it is considered a self limiting disease. I hope the Rheumatologist is able to come up with a plan of treatment that wil help with the pain and swelling.

Hi Kelsi,

I would like to know how your daughter is doing? Did this go away in it's own for her? My son was just diagnosed w/ HSP (same symptoms as your daughter) and I'm wondering what to expect.

Thanks!
