Thanks for any info,

Can someone tell me the difference between a Pet-Scan and a Spect-Scan?

I know a little about spect scans in relation to brains. I know Pet scans are pictures I believe of slices of your brain or whatever part of the body.
A spect scan was recommended for me (although I never had one) to see my brain and what areas blood flow is good or bad. I had brain surgery a long time ago, and have had continuous problems with all kinds of mental and cognitive disabilities. The spect can apparently tell a lot, beside blood flow. It can tell if you take drugs and have problems that other scans cannot. I had malformations in the blood vessels, and that is why they recommended it. I had no money at the time to do it, and now I am 59 and am doing so much better on meds, there's no reason for it. Not much help, since I do not know what each procedure entails for the patient. I only get Cts once a year because there are vascular clips in my head made of unknown metal, so an MRI is out of the question. Look on the web and read about them. A doctor in Virginia was one of the first to use Spect, and his last name is Able.

Beans,
Thank you for your reply. I was going over some a test result from September of last year when my neuroseurgeon was trying to rule out something that caused my spine to develope AA (adheasive arachnoiditis) since what he was looking for was not there it was not discogentic. But the Dr. whom did the reading eluded twice in the report to my right kidney having a high glow consentration. In March of 07 I had kidney cancer in my left kidney and we were keeping an eye on it every 6 mos. no dramatic changes so now I see him once a year. From what I read is this consentration of the nucular dye will hown in on cancer cells. I have seen a lot of people mention pet scans but not many having a spect scan which I had done last year. So I just think I will call the hospital that I had the spect done and have them mail the disc and the doctors note with it. Again thank you again.
