CMTC/immunity

0 Recommendations

My daughter has CMTC and over the last few months has had multiple colds and ear infections. I did not know is there was any relation to this and her CMTC? I am sure they are not related but wanted to check because everytime she gets an infection the doctor wants to start her on another antibiotic and I hate her taking so many. Could CMTC affect the immune system? Thank you for your time.

Hello

I'm sorry that I can't answer your question as I don't know much about CMTC myself. I'm really here just looking to find other parents like myself. My daughter is almost 7 weeks old and has CMTC. The doctors are not worried and think her birthmark will fade by the time she is 2. I'm upset because I've read about this on the internet and it just sounds so bad. I feel alone as I don't know anybody else who is going through this. If you would like to talk please let me know.

Thanks
Georgia

Hi Georgia & Julia,

Your not alone! My daughter Ava is 19 months and has CMTC. As far as being sick, when I've taken Ava in the doctors have never suggested on CMTC being the reason or causing it. Ava has markings on her left side and when she was born they were dark purple and now they are really light pink and you can only usually really notice when she is cold. So they have faded considerably. If you have any questions, please let me know!

Hello Rachelle,

Thank you so much for getting back to me. My daughter Ella has several small markings on her right wrist and arm. The Drs are not concered but I know that they don't see CMTC that often and can't help but wonder if they missed something. What did the Drs. tell you about CMTC and your beautiful daughter Ava? Were you scared? Are you still nervous? I'm glad to hear that she is doing well and that her only issue is the birthmark.
I'm just really nervous because I have read all of the related issues that can come along with CMTC.....limb discrepencies...etc...
Thank you again for taking the time to reach out....
Georgia

Hi Julia,

Do you have other kids? In case you do I wonder if they are facing this issue as well.
Where are the CMTC markings located? Did they for instance check for markings inside the ear and/or mouth?

Dear Julia,

Our Ellayna seemed to always catch a cold if it was going to be possible. Her pediatrician mentioned that after a full exam if the ears nose and throat, that her high risk nature for colds was probably more to the fact she was a premature baby. They are more likely to get croup, asthma, and RSV. He deals with mostly special needs children, his own son is autistic, and said a lot of them are born premature. Just wondering if this was your case as well.

On another note, Lex sorry it is taking so long to transpose that recording, the echo is terrible, I have been trying different software to filter some of that out to better understand Marice.

Also Lex, last month when they did Ellayna's bronchoscopy they found a small nodule in her airway just below her vocal cords. It was solid, and very small so they are just monitoring it for now. They also found a patch of loose tissue in the back of her throat that looked inflamed, but she has not mentioned a sore throat. We question if this was indeed a patch of CMTC in there, or a patch of overgrowth tissue that has become irritated. They feel this may be why at times she has labored breathing. You have my permission to discuss this with Marice or others to see if anyone else has had this problem.

Later my friends,
Ed

Hi Georgia,

That's great she only has small markings on her arm. The doctors told us that CMTC was a vascular condition and we were sent to a neurologist, dermatologist, genologist, opthamologist, Ava has regular eye checkups and dermatologist appointments. Oh yes, we were terrified! Ava's arm and leg with markings were smaller width size when she was born, but now with her growing they have pretty much evened out. The dermatologist does measure limb length also just as she grows. Honestly, if you couldn't see the markings you would never know she has a condition just a little girl with a lot of energy! It is alittle nerve racking everytime she has an appointment, but it's nice to know you can talk to other people who have children with CMTC. See what they've done and how their children are growing. Is this your first child?

Rachelle

Dear Lex,

She is our first. Raegan's markings are from her neck down. She does not have any on her face, but has never been checked inside her ears or mouth for this. I will have her doctor look at the next appointment. Do they need to look a special way to see the CMTC on the inside?

Thank you to everyone for your responses and support!
Julia

Georgia,

Hi thank you for responding! My daughter Raegan in 8 months old and it does not feel like it has been that long since I was in your shoes. I have received a lot of information and support from this website. In the beginning you have so many questions and you want to make sure you do all the right things for your child. For us we are trying to take it one day at a time and see what each day brings us as she is developing. So far Raegan's CMTC has been superficial only except her left arm is a little bigger than her right. It is wonderful to be able to have a site like this, it lets you know you are not alone. I am still learning too about CMTC, but if you need to chat feel free!

Julia
