cholesteatoma/ear prosthesis

0 Recommendations

dear friends--my 25 year old son has a rare genetic condition, ring chromosome 15. 1 of the manifestations of this condition for him has been chronic middle ear problems coupled with variable hearing loss. he has had numerous surgeries to implant prosthetic bone, remove cholesteatoma and to reconstruct the eardrum. the most recent surgery was in the spring of 2007. we learned this past week that the prosthesis has already shifted and is beginning to work its way out from behind the eardrum. the surgeon has tried to avoid a more radical procedure called "canal wall down" & essentially wants one more try to reconstruction. does anyone have experience with repeated surgeries of this type, and/or with the canal wall down procedure?
thanks,
holly lu
