Catamenial pneumothorax

0 Recommendations

I've had symptoms of difficulty breathing, chest pain that radiates to my shoulder blade and pain under tmy right rib cage that worsens with each inhale through the start and duration of my menstrual cycle for the last 4 years that no one has been able to give a specific diagnosis to. After a recent Spontaneous Pneumothorax two weeks ago, I dug around to see if it could be caused by those symptoms could be related to the pneumothorax with the similarities to the breathing issues.

I found the a mass of information on exactlly the same symptoms I have to the "T" of Catamenial Pneumothorax or CPT but none of my doctors will look into it to at least rule it out. I'm getting the same response...."I never heard of it..."

I need to find a doctor or facility that will take me seriously in AZ....CAN ANYONE HELP?

Surgery Hysterectomy Pain Pneumothorax

Dear NeedHelp,

I've been going throught he exact same thing for 5 years now. Initally I was told it was spontaneous and only surgery would help. Not agreeing with that and frustrated with explaining that it only happened during my cycle, I had a friend of a friend give me birth control pills. I was collapse free for 2 years until last Fri. I met with a new general practice Dr. yesterday who told me I only had back problems, but after today's chest x-ray showing a 15-20% collapse, he's referring me for a CT scan and to a pulmonologist. I told him I'd get there, but this lung condition is an effect and I need to know the cause. I will discuss this further with my GYN in the hopes she'll do a laproscopic procedure to check for endometreosis. There is a fabulous webite www.catamenial-pneumothorax.com where I got all of my information. Every Dr. needs to do at least half of the research that we have. You're right, how do we make people listen? At the very least I'd like to go back on birth control. I'm 40 and done having children so I would even be alright with a hysterectomy. I do hope you find someone who will listen. I guess for now we have to arm ourselves with this information and be our own best advocates. Where do you live? I'm in PA.
