Alopecia Universalis

Hello, my husband started losing hair just before Christmas of 08. He has been to a dermatologist, endocrinologist, internist, plust the family doctor. He now has absolutely no hair left on his body which they say is alopecia universalis but have no clue what triggered it. He is now having problems with his skin and his eyes hurt, plus red rings on his fingernails. He is so depressed and cant stand the way he looks. Help!! Does anyone know of anything to help him out.

Hi there,
I have alopecia areata for almost a decade now and it happens every now and then. I believe that whenever I am stressed and depressed it triggers my hair to drop. I used to use minoxidil as a topical treatment. Apparently, my hair grew back after a while. Recently, it started again and I did not apply anything and hairs started growing again. Although I highly suspect it is linked to stress, I cannot be too sure. I think learning to be at peace with the condition and your support to your husband will certainly be very helpful.
