Twenty-four/seven?

Are oxygen concentrator machines suppoed to be capable of running 24/7?

We have an Invacare machine. The first one worked OK for about 8 weeks. then the alarm went off. They put in another machine. The alarm on that one went off about 7;30 this morning.

We've tried resetting it; turning it off for a rest for a while. None of that works for long. Several hours ago the supplier said they would see about getting a fix.

So, back to my basic question, Are they suipposed to be able to run 24/7?

Thought so!! I haven t had that problem!

How long a cord are you running and what setting? What is the max setting?

To Rober PFF:

The cord is 7 feet and 4 inches. Setting: the black ball takes up all of the space between line for 1.5 and 2.0 liters. Put another way, the top of the black ball just barely touches the line mark for 2.00 the intent of the tech was to set it to two liters.

The cord looks like it is build to carry lots of amps -- way more than most appliance cords.

I forgot to mention the max setting. It is 5.0

Thanks I don't think you shoud be having that problem.....

Some machines cut out if near max capacity and too long a cord but your nowhere near that.....

Ummm if you have stable power in your outlet and have no maxed out the total amperage in the circuit then you should nt be having problems...

If you share the circuit with other high consumers like a fridge or toaster etc you at want to try it on a lighter loaded circuit first. My 6 liter machine drew 4 amps of 110v power not sure what my 10 liter machine draws.

My machine is more likely to give me an alarm when the filters are dirty. Have you removed and washed your filters? I live with 3 cats and two dogs, and we have a lot of dust as I am in an agricultural area and run a swamp cooler on my roof. My alarms were more likely to occur just after I turned the machine on after returning home when I was on my portable unit.

I have a ten liter machine, set at 7 lpm, and it runs 24/7, often for more than a week straight at any given time as I just dont get out of the house much in the summer.

My machine runs 24/7 also. It's alarm has only gone out when the power goes. I only had to have it replaced once in 5 years. So I think your supplier should get that replaced and fix it on their own time. Expecially since you are supposed to be on o2 and the machine doesn't seem to be working. The Doctor wouldn't be happy with that!

Our 10L concentrator stops working all the time! It is almost always the water bottle attached which needs to be replaced- don't know why but it works and Medicare provides the extra water bottles so they know about the problem. Also, I keep the filters clean as Katrina mentioned, and use filtered water. It runs 24/7 - has to. We had it replaced once or twice.

Thanks for your responses. The company service rep. brought in a different unit about 6:00 pm yesterday. They have been having trouble with the particular unit we have had. The other machine is an older model that works better. The rep said, yes, these machines are supposed to work 24/7. Interesting one of you should mention amperage load in the circuil. We thought of that possibility too, and unplugged the fridge. The caution light (low oxygen) came on just the same.

To be on the safe side, we plugged this latest machine into a circuit where the heaviest load is the TV set. The machine has been working fine. It is in a good central location.
