Hi all~
I just recently found out I am pregnant. My family and I are elated! We have been trying for a long time. I am in my 5th week and I am experiencing all sorts of emotions. I am so excited, but so nervous that something will happen. I am sure this is something that other first-timers do too. I am worried that I will miscarry by simple daily tasks, getting startled, or just simply being excited and worried. I need some positive feedback to get me through my first trimester. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Congrats to you and yours. Don't be scared. That is perfectly normal to feel the way you do. I have two chidren and about to start on my third, hopeing for a girl this time around. I have two boys. You can't miscarry from having these feelings. So try not to put so much pressure on yourself (relax and enjoy) and you can continue with your daily activities as long as they are not over the top.

What a great way to begin the new year! Congrats. One way to get rid of fears is to read all that you can about pregnancy and birth. Yes, birth is a normal and natural event for humans - we don't have family around much anymore to teach us about birth so reading is a good way to learn. Several good books include "Pregnancy, Childbirth & The Newborn" by Penny Simkin and any book by Dr. William and Martha Sears. If you read websites, be aware that ANYONE can create a website so look for sites written by healthcare professionals and quoting evidence-based research. Finally, interview obstetricians to find one that works for you AND take childbirth classes -either at the hospital at which you will be giving birth or with one of the many independent educators in our community.

Many Blessings,

I too am 5 weeks, and I worry all the time, all day every day. It took us 3 years to get to this pregnancy and we are so nervous it will be wisked away just as fast. I am so anxious to feel the baby move and wear maternity clothes.....I even love not feeling well and being tired out of mind....I LOVE IT ALL :)
Best wishes!!
Katie
