Vaccum suggestion?

0 Recommendations

I have a former 26 weeker and we try to keep her environment as clean as we possibly can (we have 2 cats) and our vacuum just went out so I thought I would ask for suggestions on a new vacuum. I know many preemies have lung issues so I thouht I might get some good feedback on this. We cannot afford a $600 Dyson or $500 Oreck but we really want to find a good one. I'm tired of vacuums that have to be replaced every year! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

My doctor told me that you should get the vacuums WITH the bags, as the bagless ones tend to just recirculate the dust and are difficult to clean the filters. I know they are very hard to find, I just have an old one. I do like our vacuum, it's a Kenmore (Sears brand.) It is not bagless, b/c I couldn't find one when I was looking.

Also, we rent a Rug Doctor carpet cleaner twice a year - you could do it more often too. They're really cheap (like $40/day) and we clean all the rugs in our house - we just did it yesterday. They are super clean afterwards, and it just makes me feel like i removed a ton of dirt and dust from them. Just a thought.

Thanks for this topic.
I just wanted to post it. I have Eureka Forbes Vaccum cleaner and it comes with bags which we have to change periodically.

Now my query is I want to wash my Apartment's carpet before my daughter crawl. where to rent the vaccum cleaner ? which cleaner i have to use? plz help me i dont want to waste money and my hardwork to do it again and again. (If i dont get good result)

@Mygirlsmom
Very nice DP i just love it.

I am always looking for a good vacuum since we have a cat and a dog. We recently got the Hoover Windtunnel (bag vacuum). I really like it and it was affordable. I can't say that it gets rid of all the pet hair, but it does the best of the vacuums I have owned. I like that it has a red light to say the carpet is dirty and green when clean. Who knows if it's accurate, but I spend more time on the red spots.

We had a Hoover with bag for YEARS, and it was exceptional. Fortunately, just before the twins were born we changed all our flooring over to hard woods and throw rugs, and the Hoover basically was too powerful for the throw rugs.

Hope this helps.

We rent the "Rug Doctor" carpet cleaner from our local grocery store. Call your local store and see if they offer this. If you can't find one, I'll see if I can find a link for you.

You may want to consider buying a vac with a HEPA filter which traps very small particles and keeps them from being exhausted into the air when you vacuum.

Dyson vacuum are expensive but they do a great job of getting everything up and are worth every penny. They also have a great warranty :)

We just went through this as well. We have 2 chichuahua's. We bought a vaccum with HEPA bags. You want to get a powerful motor, that's what sucks the dirt and dust up. We went with a Riccar, it was the only vacuum with metal (not plastic) parts, american made, HEPA filter bags, and lifetime warrenty. Our local sales rep also threw in free yearly maintenance and tune-ups. Our ped. also recommended that we keep the dogs out of the baby's room to keep clean air. Our house is 5 years old, we will be getting our a/c ducts cleaned after this winter as well. Lots of dirt and dust can accumulate up there. Let us know what you decide! I know Riccar's start at around $299-$399. We love ours!!

We just purchased a Kenmore Progressive Upright from Sears. It does use Hepa filter bags and has an inteli-clean system that lets you know whether the floor is clean or not, when the light is red, it ups the suction. I didn't want to go bagless because after a lot of research, most people said that you had to empty the thing after almost every room, and when emptying it, you wind up getting dust all over the place. Our old vaccuum was also a Kenmore and it lasted for something like 10 or more years. It was my sister-in-law's, who then gave it to my husband before we even met. It just now broke this past year.
It is also reasonably priced, but FYI, I found it online but it was something like $20 or $30 cheaper in the store.

We broke down and got a $350 Dyson @ target.
Worth every penny.

We love our Dyson (the yellow one) it is great. And the filter is not hard to clean and it easily dumps out. I would use a word of caution on carpet cleaning (Rug Dr. and others) as there is a loose connections between bacteria pulled out of the carpet during those cleans and Kawasaki disease, which my 7 year old niece got right after a carpet cleaning, which the dr. attributed it to. Needless to say, we have suspended all carpet cleanings.

We have the Dyson Animal - we bought it a few years ago and have never had a problem with it! It handles the cat hair so well (we have 4 cats)!!! I know it can be pricey - but, in my opinion, it is worth the money. Best of luck with your decision!

Hi Laura-
We've also been very careful about dust concerning Evin. His lungs were pretty bad, so we sent our pets to live with my parents.
We got a Dyson too, and I am okay with it. Mainly- I like all of the attachments for getting the blinds and baseboards. It's very powerful, but I do have to go outside and empty it frequently. We got air filters for our main rooms, and went ahead and bought our own carpet cleaner/ hardwood steamer. It's not anything fabulous- but like another mom said- I have had too many friends get sick after "public" cleaners and the Dr's attributed the bacterias from their illness back to the cleaning. We had to have something though as Evin's reflux keeps the rugs soiled. Ugh.

Hope you all are well and enjoying the fall out there.
Amy
