I have always sterlized all of her bottles after each feeding and she doesnt have a pacifier, im not sure how she got it. how long does it take to get rid of it

Alex had trush while he was in the hospital and when he came home. I was told he got it from his breathing treatments. He had to take some med. that we had to brush on his tongue. I think he only had it for a month and a half. Once he was done with his breathing treatments it went away.

The doctors were debating whether or not my son was beginning to get thrush. It never developed into anything substantial. But we gave him Nystatin (I think that's what it was), so that may have been what cut things off before they really developed. This was when he was about 2-3 weeks adjusted.

From the website : http://pediatrics.about.com/od/childhoodinfections/a/thrush.htm

"Thrush Treatments
Thrush is usually treated with a prescription medicine called Nystatin which is given four times a day. The dosage is 0.5ml to each side of the child's mouth if they are under 30 days old, and 1 ml to each side of their mouth for older infants and toddlers. Treatment is continued for about 7 to 10 days and at least 3 days after you no longer see any signs of thrush. If your child's infection isn't quickly improving after a few days, you may want to use a gauze to directly rub the medication on the white patches. Although your child will likely swallow the dose of Nystatin, since it isn't absorbed, it is the direct contact with the yeast that combats the infection. "

Hope this helps.

I used this for me 5 year old when he had thrush.

My 13 year old nephew had thrush when he was a baby and his ped prescribed different things and no help, it would come right back. A friend told us about something called Genetin violet...I think that's the name??? You can check at your local pharmacy. It used to be blue and would stain anything it came in contact with, but I have heard they have it in a clear formula now. Anyway, after my sister used it the Thrush never came back.

My 27 weeker had thrush, we used Nystatin and Genetin violet to treat. I also boiled everything. Nystatin is topical treatment so I had to make sure DD didn't just swallow it and not really get her mouth/tongue coated.

Hi,

Just to put your mind at ease - thrush is very common with bottle fed babies and it's no reflection on how you're cleaning them - it's just one of those things that happens.

If you use the Nystatin - dip a large cotton bud/Qtip into the liquid and then use that to coat the tongue with it.

It clears up quickly.

Thrush can be started from medications used that depletes the system of good bacteria. There are prescription mouth swishes to help get rid of it. Just be sure to follow through on rechecks because thrush is something that if left untreated or if it is not completly gotten rid of can go completely through the childs system and out there bottom. If they develope what appears to be a diaper rash have it checked before treating because the diaper rash creams are thick and only make the problem worse.

Nystatin creams can also be applied to the mother's nipples because if your baby nurses and has thrush, the mother probably has yeast on her nipples too (which can sometimes infiltrate the milk ducts and be a major issue). If both mother and baby aren't treated, you will pass it back and forth to each other.

Also, make sure you wash all clothes in hot water. You can also add 1/2 a cup of vinegar to the wash water because vinegar creates a PH that yeast can't survive in. (also good for those husbands with athlete's feet to soak their feet in).

Try to keep baby's clothes separate from everyone else's until the yeast problem is gone. Yeast infections, jock itch and athlete's foot from other family members can transfer to baby's clothes if you wash in cold water.
